I am going to have to say the Model 1910 FN Browning automatic that killed archduke Ferdinand.

World wars 1 and 2 can both be attributed to that single gun.

Colt M1911, Winchester 1873, Colt Peacemaker. I don’t know which is number 1

The Kentucky rifle used by the American Revolutionaries. It gave them a strong ballistic advantage in both accuracy and distance over the Brits with the most powerful army in the world at the time. The creation of the United States rose from the average citizen owning and knowing how to use a rifle superior to that of the ruling powers.

I don’t think the OP is asking which type, but rather which individual gun. That Browning probably is responsible indirectly for millions upon millions of deaths.

The first repeating rifle that shot a metallic cartridge.

"The Henry Rifle. It was Mr. Henry who conceived the first practical, lever action repeating rifle. Patented in 1860, the Henry gave a single man the firepower of a dozen marksmen armed with muzzle-loading muskets."

IMO, the Henry did for soldiers and frontiersmen what the first tractor did for farmers.

In the war of northern aggression the north received repeating rifles that finalized the war. What would have happened had the south received them? Would that not have been the most significant change in our current life. Good or bad?

Note: I may have made all this up. Going on memory.

The Flobert gallery rifle, it was the first to fire a metallic cartridge. A 22 caliber round ball powered by the percussion cap only. This led to the Spencer rifles and the Henry rifles.

Yes! A Weatherby does kill them deader.

Yes. And I can’t argue with his choice either.

I would have said the 1873 Winch3ster but Payne nailed. The Kalishnikov.

I can't see how that can be disputed. WW1 had 37 million causalities including 16 million deaths.

Which in turn set the stage for WWII, and another 50,000,000+ deaths.

Please explain to me how the 1911 changed history. It wasnt even the main battle weapon our boys carried.

This gun:

Without this one, Archduke Ferdinand wouldn’t have been important.

Not sure it deserves the top spot, but Richard Gatling's creation should make the short list of contenders.
