Last year, I shot coyotes every month and sometimes several in a month. I thought this year would start like last year finished, but it has not. While I did see coyotes at the start of the year, they were hundreds of yards away and not interested in the calls I was making. On the rare chance I got to shoot at one, something would go wrong. So I finally get to add my first coyote to the kill counter!

That Patrol XR looks nice, you were already deadly and efficient as is and now moreso !

The Patrol M250XR is pretty cool. None of the other Trijicon thermals focus and this will focus down to 10 feet or so (used it in the house, LOL) and then out to infinity. At 4.5x native magnification, however, the FOV is pretty small. So this isn't going to be my choice for scanning anything with 150 yards. For large fields, it is outstanding. Usually, I am scanning with 2x Armasight and seeing those coyotes at 370 yards would have required me to get my rifle (IR Hunter 4.5x) on them before I could make an identification. With the M250XR, I made the identification, starting calling while getting my rifle up on the shooting sticks.

So this isn't a scope that I would need or want on every hunt, but it is nice to be using on the really large fields.

Instead of the XR, the optional afocal kit in 2X or 3X for the patrol might be an option.

Yeah, that could work if you already had an IR Patrol and just wanted to increase capability. However, if you don't already have an IR Patrol, the combined price of the Patrol and the afocal kit produces a combination that is much more expensive than most other 2x and 3x thermal optics.

I like my Patrol, but would like more mag for larger, deeper pastures when needed.
