Hi All,

Super excited. Under the New Mexico Disability draw I put in for an Antelope and was drawn. The hunt will be the beginning of August. Should be a lot of fun. I also put in the Wyoming drawing and was drawn for Antelope and Deer. Really looking forward to these hunts. For anyone that is disabled, New Mexico has a great program.

Thanks all,

Should be some fun trips. Got hat and wicked bug killer ready to go. I hear the chiggers are terrible up in the Clayton, NM area. Looking forward to it, got my 6.5 Creedmoor dialed in at 200 yards.

Hi All,
I went to New Mexico and had a great time. I stayed in Clayton, NM. What a great drive there from San Antonio. I was shooting a Savage 6.5 Creedmoor Since it was a mobility impaired hunt, I was able to shoot from the truck. I can walk short distances, but would never be able to get in and out of a truck fast enough to keep up with these antelope. We drove maybe 1o miles east of Clayton and started to drive down a dirt road. Lots of cattle and a coyote. We came over a small rise and there were two antelope in the road. They took off and were 200 yards out in the field almost instantly. The guide said they were decent, but not what we wanted.

We drove down the road and all of a sudden the guide says "There he is!" In a filed on the east side of the road out on a small hill stood a lone buck. Since the buck was on the driver side, the guide started a 3 point turn to get me on target. In the 2nd point of the turn, he took off. As the truck finished it's final turn, he stopped on another rise to watch us. He was ranged at 400 yards and I knew at that distance there was about a 12 inch drop from the bullet. I was told to aim for his forehead. He was standing on the rise facing right at us. I aimed for his forehead and pulled the trigger. No stumble, no jump, he just took off. I thought I had missed and thought if we got farther down the road, I may see him again. This was only about a 1/2 hour since he had picked me up at the hotel. The guide was more optimistic, he said he didn't see a hit but thought the antelope ran off fun.

We got out of the truck, rolled under the barbed wire fence and started walking. I knew I had a 400 yard walk minimum. Im only 5'7" and I walk hunched over with a cane. I don't see much in front of me. We found where he had been standing and on the rocks were spots of blood. We went about 10 more yards and the guide said "Congrats, you got him!" He was about 6'2" so he could see what I couldn't. There was blood and as I walked up, there laid my antelope. The shot went in his chest and exited behind his left shoulder leaving a large hole. When we gutted him, his heart was mush, so he ran only on adrenaline.

It was a great time, lots of meat, and a cool mount being done up. I love hunting New Mexico and look forward to going there again. Sorry no pics, I don't remember how to add pics.
