I have a 64 gun liberty safe from Cabelas it’s the fat boy. I have a Goldenrod humidifier rod plugged in it as well as a Liberty mini dehumidifier with the indicator on it. When I bought the rod from Cabelas the guy swore up and down it would be plenty for that safe but I got the Liberty as back up and sure enough it seems like every other month the indicator shows it’s wet. The safe is kept inside my house. The goldenrod is warm to the touch so I assume it’s working. What should I do to cut down on the humidity?

I assume you mean a Goldenrod - de - humidifier? Yes, you are correct to assume that. Any advice or are you just here to be my personal spell checker?

I have a 60 gun in my house with a golden rod and no means to check humidity. I live on the coast in a very humid area and have never had a problem with rust. I doubt you need to do anything unless you are having issues.

No issues just making sure I won’t have anyin the future, thanks! My safe has been in my house for years; I do not have a dehumidifier. No issues.

You need to get a hygrometer, like this one hygrometer , so you know the humidity. You want to have 40 to 50% humidity in the safe to keep the stocks from drying out and cracking or warping. Above 50%, you risk rust. If it takes a couple of months for the dehumidifier to show wet, you don't have too much moisture.

I’ve never heard of that but I’m definitely going to order one just for a peace of mind. I appreciate it.

Your local cigar shop should have several hygrometers in stock that are small and accurate. They live and die by humidity. Never thought of one for the safe but will own one soon. Good info.

That goldenrod is only a heating element to keep a safe a steady warm temp to keep humidity down doesn’t remove anything .

I bought a Frigidaire 75 pint dehumidifier and put in my gun room. It works great. I have to empty it out about once a month depending on the weather.
How come everybody I meet is a deer hunting expert?
