Looking for a 2019 bear hunt for 3 hunters and 3 wives who fish. The wives don’t hunt but would like to able to fish while we hunt or go to town or whatever. Has anybody been to a good place or know of one?

I will be returning to Mike’s Outfitting in Alberta for a bear hunt at some point. Great outfit, and the kill great bears. Not sure about the ladies, though. Call and talk with Mike Ukrainetz. He’s as honest as they come.

Check out Terry and Merrill Kluke at Merckel's Camp, Dryden Ontario. They are great folks. I went in Sept and we stayed in the Outpost Cabin (3 bedrooms, full kitchen, full bathroom/shower) solar/battery powered. This secluded cabin is on Little Basket lake with access to Basket Lake. Boats/motors available. His main camp has cabins with fishing also but more of a drive 30 min to bear hunting. Going back in May for spring bear and fishing.

Rob Bland sounds like a great guide for Canadian Black Bear. He's on here occasionally but you could reach him on Facebook easier. Website Canadian Black Bear Outfitters Rob Bland

Rob Bland here....I am from Nova Scotia, Canada and have been guiding since 2011 but I have a small camp, only taking 3 people per week for the first 2 weeks of the season. I am already booked for the first week of the 2019 season and actually have 2 Texans driving here for the first week in 2019. If you would like, I can make a few inquiries for you and maybe hook you up for fishing and hunting. You can check out the link in my signature for more information on Canadian Black Bear Outfitters and just click on the tabs at the top of the page. You will find testimonials from the 4 Texans who have hunted with me under the testimonial section, Gino Montague, Ken Fincher, and Chris Baird. Marty Leatherwood is originally from Texas but now lives in Oklahoma. Their contact information is also on the site. Cheers and stay safe Rob https://www.blackbearoutfitters.ca/

I owned and managed a fish/hunt lodge in N.W. Ontario for some dozen years. What a piece of Heaven! Curious of your intentions: will this be a 1 time trip? Trophy hunt or just a bear hunt? How fancy of accommodation? Laws crossing the border? You need to itemize your demands of the trip you are expecting and we all can narrow this down for you. My advice would be looking west Manitoba/Alberta. A lot of these camps have already shot out there trophy bears from overhunting. Hate to see you taken advantage of.

Personally for me just a bear don’t care, my brother wants a trophy though, I’d be just as happy hunting them with a spear and if I get one fine if not fine. Accommodations need to be average or above for the ladies, they will fish and it would be great if they could do it from the lodge. Likely a one time trip for me. Don’t care what area as long as there’s some bears. I won’t cross the border with a rifle but others may not sure. It shouldn’t be too hard to find, bears, water, and fair lodging conditions. Thank you.

There are tons of options if you are hunting over bait. Many fewer if you want a spot and stalk hunt. For the latter and big bears look at Vancouver Island. Only a few outfitters there (fewer if you don’t want to pay the Shockey celebrity premium/long wait time) and all are good with nice facilities. Vancouver Island is especially great for the ladies.
My wife and I went with Sean Lingl at Canadian Guide Outfitters. One of our best vacations ever.
I learned long ago you can't reason someone out of something they don't reason themselves into.

Thanks. I had bait in mind actually and I don’t care about size. I’ll check it all out.

This might be illegal, oh heck, I know it is illegal, but here is my suggestion, in Ruidoso on Mechem, there is a restaurant called Casa Blanca. If headed north turn left there, after you pass the parking lot, on the left side down in a hole is where the dumpsters are. The bears raid it every night and into the early morning hours. Be real quiet, you are only a few blocks south of the local law enforcement center.

Best of luck in your search. I do all my bear hunts solo self guided by canoe or I would recommend someone but I don't like to do that without any first hand experience. General rule of thumb that you get what you pay for applies - but there are always exceptions. If our laws were different I would invite you up for a hunt gratis but non-resident hunters are required to use an outfitter here. It's really too bad because I have a really nice setup with four bedrooms, full kitchen/bath/living a 25 foot boat for fishing and enough tackle for 6 plus a half mile+ of frontage on a good bass/pike/walleye lake.

wow sounds like a dream place. It is that. The view from the dock: Nobody else on any of that waterfront. We have 117 acres and about 3000 feet of frontage and the rest is public wilderness with no roads. Opening day last fall solo paddling my 18 foot canoe out after a successful hunt:

In your case I would be looking in the Kenora Ontario area on Lake of the Woods. Beautiful area, things for ladies to do, fishing on thousands of acres water, and should have plentiful wildlife...including bears. 125 miles north of U.S./ Minnesota border.Good luck and enjoy!

That's Great! I'm thinking you and wives will enjoy the Lake of the Woods (980,000 acres) and Kenora area. Very pretty boreal forests and granite rock hills. I still have my cabin on Dryberry Lake and make the trip yearly. Let us know what camp you choose.
