My wife’s birthday is the 6th and she’s always liked shooting, but has taken more interest in wanting to learn more about guns at a deeper level than just shooting. She asks about how they function, what parts are called, etc. so I figured a quick 10/22 build would be perfect for that. Picked up a 10/22 carbine at academy last week, ordered a few parts, and we were off. I had the scope and rings in the safe. Here’s what we put together. Nothing too crazy *Brand new 10/22 that we only kept the action out of *Green mountain 16.25” .920 heavy fluted barrel *Ruger BX Trigger *Boyd’s At-One gunstock in blackjack *Ruger factory scope base *TPS steel rings low *Nikon Prostaff 7 4-12x40 w/ side focus All in just under $700 since I had the scope and rings already. First range trip will be Monday. I’m expecting 1/2” groups at 50 yards based on everything I’ve read about the green mountain barrels.

Wet nice looking gun, minus the noticeable ding in the stock. Green Mountain barrels are good for the money, just heavy. I’m Wanting to replace mine with a carbon fiber barrel.

Good looking rig. She'll be really proud when ya'll get it to the range. Should be a dandy shooter.

That's nice! I just built nearly the same thing for my daughter and I to shoot:
Ruger 10/22 receiver/bolt Green Mountain 20" fluted .920 barrel Brimstone Tier 2 trigger Boyds At-One ("sky" color) Ruger factory base & rings Bushnel AR 223 3-9x40 scope with side focus
I really am not a big fan of the scope, but Academy had it on clearance. Might switch to something like your Prostaff 7 before too long. I tried the BX trigger, but ended up returning it because I didn't like it nearly as much as the Brimstone, which cost about the same. But maybe I just got a bad one, because they do get decent reviews.
Mine will easily shoot .5" 5-shot groups at 50 yards with Wolf Match Target, which is nice because it's cheap. I tried CCI mini mags, which shot good but not quite as well as the Wolf. Your barrel should do just as well - Green Mountain does make a very nice product for a nice price.

It will be fine for us. I already sold the factory trigger, so we’ll roll with it.
