Friend of mine from Midland took this picture on the West side of Midland. Several have already posted pictures of it and most likely it will make the news. Pretty rare to be this far south.

In January 2009, a snowy owl appeared in Spring Hill, Tennessee, the first reported sighting in the state since 1987. Also notable is the mass southern migration in the winter of 2011/2012, when thousands of snowy owls were spotted in various locations across the United States. This was then followed by an even larger mass southern migration in 2013/2014 with the first snowy owls seen in Florida for decades.

Only problem with this is not many survive such a long trip, plus they have to compete with the huge number of wintering raptors. Rare but sad! From what I can find this is only the tenth one ever spotted in Texas.

Don't you remember, the tree huggers said they can only survive in the northern "old growth forests" and shut down logging in areas known to hold them.

Interesting article in today's DMN Metro section, 3rd page about Snowy Owl found in Denton county being rehabilitated in Collin county, apparently he/she was off the mark with the migration out of Canada.

Sorry, found at Denison regional airport in December. Furthest southern confirmed Snowy Owl in US this winter. Nearly rehabilitated and will be released in MN once complete.

We have only seen one, it was at about midnight doing 70 MPH when it almost hit the windshield. It was close enough that I can tell you their eyes are blue.

This was west of Tahoka on hwy 380.
