It may be making a come back. Browning has always manufactured the pump gun in 16, and just came out with a remake of the butt ugly A-5 (IMHO) and the Citori O/U. Now Franchi will chamber their Instinct SL in 16

I still like the 16Ga, have a couple family guns from back in the day. 870 Wingmaster from around 1956 and a Browning Auto5 from around 1950. Both are deadly on birds

Its what I grew up shooting doves with. Still have it but haven't shot it in a decade or so.
Silver spurs and gold tequila keep me hanging on. Pretty girls and old cantinas give me shelter from the storm.

The new A5 sweet sixteen is a fantastic gun. Killed 270 dove with it this past season. Really hope they make it in a 20 gauge.
If the trigger is gold, the birds will fold.

I wish more gun and ammo makers would make 16 and 10 gauge.

Learned to hunt with my dad's Savage 16ga single shot. Will be the only thing my brothers fight over on his inheritance. I've been in the market for a Fox 16 SxS for years, but haven't found one quite up to what I'm looking for.

Grandpa Olson had a 16 gauge for raccoons in the hay barn. I think he carried on the tractor for when he'd flush out some game. Wish I knew where it went.

This is good news. Always thought it was the best for all occasions, killed geese with them when we were younger.
have 2, inherited dads model 12 and granddads fancy French made SxS. both retired from field duty now.
Had a chance to buy a Citori 16, many years ago and still hate the thought of passing on the gun. May check that out again, for a few $ more this time.
The browning "Sweet 16" were some pretty guns.

You'd probably need to have the chamber lengthened to be able to shoot 2 & 3/4" shells. There are 2 & 1/2" shells available, they're just harder to find. I bought the new Browning A5 Sweet Sixteen back in November and absolutely love it. It's a 5.75 lb bird-killing machine. I used it on two trips to South Dakota for pheasant. Shot a few TX ducks with it too, using Kent Bismuth.

When my dad passed away I was lucky enough to inherit his 16 gauge Model 37 Ithaca with a PolyChoke installed. Dad obtained the gun in a gun trade around 1967 or so. It was his primary hunting shotgun for many years. Upon his passing I found out how much he liked #6 shot, since over 20 boxes of 16 gauge #6's were in the house.
Now days it is almost a hassle to own a 16 gauge gun. Shells are much more expensive than 12 gauge or 20 gauge shells. I stock up my 20 gauge shell inventory when they go on sale for $5-6 dollars a box and can do the same thing in 12 gauge. The cheapest 16 gauge shells are around $9 a box. Also fewer retailers carry 16 gauge than 12 or 20 gauge.
Luck favors the prepared mind.

I have a browning sweet 16, an old auto a5 (rechambed to 2 3/4), two citori 16’s and a old Remington 1100 in a 16. They are all great guns that I have killed a lot of birds with the old 16 is really a ageless hunting round...

I think the 16ga truly comes into its own in s/s doubles with appropriately scaled frames. It leads to guns with wonderful balance and feel.

Really like the 16 gauge as a all around shotgun. I have an older Stevens pump action in 16 ga that I'd love to hunt with but it does not cycle round from magazine to chamber. I've cleaned and lapped as well as I can. It's probably not worth as much as would cost to have repaired. It was my dads so some sentimental value.

I can remember back in the mid-70's it became almost impossible to find 16 ga ammo. Ray's was one of the few places that had any selection. Seems 16 ga has always been more of a European choice, whereas USA prefers 12/20.

First gun I owned was a Stevens double 16ga, loved that gun...however damaged Dads car doing something I shouldn't have been doing and had to sell the gun to help pay for the repairs. (I think there was a life lesson in there somewhere) Later picked up a 16 Ga Remington Auto from a Pawn Shop while stationed in Arkansas. Used it quite a bit, some dove, duck, rabbit, even shot trap with it. Unfortunately it hasn't seen much action since. Really need to get a few boxes of shells and use it again
