I have a brittany who loves retrieving ducks, but she doesn't have an ounce of fat on her body and gets way too cold. Is there any way around that? Anything y'all would reccomend?

I put a neoprene vest on mine. If it is really cold I’ll towel her off after a retrieve or two.

The best thing to do would be to give up duck hunting and take up Quail hunting. You have to get up way too early and get wet to hunt ducks. If it’s too cold for my dogs it’s WAY too cold for me.

She's a great quail hunter too but with as much energy as she has, figured the more birds the better!

Get a lab..... JK
Keep her as dry as possible.
Use a good vest and tailor it so it fits nice and tight around the neck and shoulders.

My Liver and White female Brittany. "Lady" from over 50 years ago. She was adept at waterfowl as she was upland birds. We didn't have dog vests in the 1960s so I kept several towels in the blind with me and dried her off well after each retrieve. She sat at my side out of the wind and cold in the blind.
Cappy ... At my side for thirteen years, in my heart forever.

I had a 48lb English setter that loved duck hunting. She did the same and she seemed to survive, dogs are a lot tougher than we think.

Those are some great pics. My two don't like the water.

Go with the neoprene vest and if she still is cold when getting out of the water, take along a Heater Buddy for the blind. I have two GSP with no body fat. They don't have a problem with the retrieval but the boat ride home is another story. We have to wrap them in towels and get them out of the wind. Even getting chilled on the boat rides they still love to load up and go duck hunting.
