Over the weekend, I went with some buddies to a property half way between Roby and Snyder, due North of 180, just South of the river. We were in the heart of the canyons and valleys. I have never hunted canyons like this before. Animals disappear and appear out of no where. Some of the terrain was near vertical with insane bumps, draws, and hill climbs. We even broke an axle on a Polaris climbing a hill. We saw a mix of whitetail and mullies, aoudad with several large white tail and mullies seen. We saw some pigs, but nothing we could get a shot on.

I have hunted some rough mountain country in CO and NM when bow hunting elk, but this area I had never seen before. The insane cliffs and hills were simply overwhelming. We ran around in an old Ford Bronco that had been modified for the canyons. There were multiple times the draws we were driving in hit front bumper and rear bumper of this Bronco, which has a very short wheel base. There is no way a normal 4x4 "city" truck could make this, including mine.

We hunted for some hogs, and did a lot of night calling for yotes and cats. We killed 6 yotes and 2 bobcats, but only recovered these. I'll say this, a 308 Win with a 125 SST at 3022 fps in a 20" suppressed AR-10 will flat out hammer a yote!!

Sounds like you were close to me. Which ranch were you on? I have an idea of about where you were and it is some rough country.

I hunted just south of there for many years. Definitely more yotes than I've ever seen anywhere else. If I got bored deer hunting, I'd pull out the trusty old Burnham Bros mouth call and could always count on something coming in.

Im a little farther than I thought. I hunt about a mile east of camp springs. Haven't spent much time in that area since 2011.

It's beautiful out there. We hunt on the river northwest of there closer to Post and if it weren't for oil roads, hard to access. Caprock is on the place too. I exit the vehicle and walk up. Lol.

D C. You should see the 'Pitchfork'. The Croton breaks are absolutely stunning. Looks like Caprock canyons, or Palo Duro. Beautiful reds and white layers of gypsum looks like neopolitan ice cream. I love that area of the state.
