Hunting a wheat field this morning with my 17" 7mm-08 A.I. Doe at 285 yards, vitals, did the stiff leg fall over.

Spike at 265 yards, quartering away, vitals, made a 20 yard lap, and piled up. Maybe I can get autopsy pics to load, later.

The muzzle velocity on my load is 2640 fps.

It's new bullet, foo.

The question has been asked here, fairly recently.

Still an all time favorite cartridge for me.

How does it perform on deer sized stuff under 100 yds?

200 pound hog, in and out the center of the neck from 30 yards. Only close range experience I have with it yet.

On the quartering deer, this morning @ 265 yards. It entered on the last rib left side, passed through both lungs and came out the center of the right shoulder.
Entry 3/4", exit 1 1/2". So a diagonal pass through. The lungs were liquid.

I'd load pics if I could.

I shot a buck quartering last year at 83yds with a eld m with great results. Behind the impact shoulder and fist size exit in front of the off side shoulder.

Good to hear. I’m planning on throwing things together enough to shoot a couple does with the 175’s. They’ll be going just a bit faster than that to see what higher impact velocities do to them.

Deer number 3 this evening.

250 yards, 90° broadside. Missed a rib on the way in, so 7mm hole. 1 1/4" exit.

I've texted them to Chad and Dee
I don't know if that'll work.

As far as I know, the ELD-M is the same bullet, basically, with a heat resistant tip.

The ELD-X, that JG is using, and that Hornady designed to hunt, is similar to the ELD-M, but with a thicker jacket for more controlled expansion.

Good deal. My son shot a really nice muley buck with his 260 and 140 ELDM. Performed well. I was really curious about the ELDX though since they shoot so well in my 6.5.

Phone pics, managed to email them to myself and get them loaded via laptop.

This was a spike at 265 yards. Top pick is entry, the bullet clipped the last rib on the way in. Deer was obviously quartering away. I was facing north, and he was facing north west. Point of aim was exactly where entry was.

This is exit. I don't like tearing up a shoulder, as this was a meat hunt, but I gotta do, what I gotta do.

7mm 162 gr. ELD-X, MV 2640 fps. The bullet works!

250 yard doe. 7mm entry, as it slipped right between ribs. Missed both shoulders, though.

.
.
1 1/4"-1 1/2" exit. She ran about 40 yards, and piled up.

It did not. The angle of pass-through was all well forward of the diaphragm. And I found no bullet fragments anywhere in all the deer hit with it. I could not be more pleased with the bullet's performance.

Not this time, Buzz. Two reasons for no brainstem shots. I really wanted to see what this bullet did, on vitals. And, two, I had a seriously modified position. I had to get into my competition shooting brain, and "game it". Rifle balanced ahead of the mag well, backpack in my lap. I just didn't feel still enough for a brainstem shot.
