Need information on the 25-06. Never even shot one but am thinking about one. How does it compare in recoil to a 7-08? What do the gurus say??? Thanks Daniel

Recoil isn't bad at all. Good crossover gun. Has both varmint bullets/loads and larger game dedicated bullets.

Thanks Daniel Recoil is about the same based on the chart at the link below. http://www.chuckhawks.com/recoil_table.htm25-06 ammo costs more than the more than the comparable .270 and 30-06. My Winchester Model 70 chambered in 25-06 has always performed great.

I’m the only one I know that feels this way but something about 25-06 recoil bothers me. It feels very sharp. I’ve shot a 25-06 in a Model 700, M70 and Weatherby Mark V. I’ve shot the same model rifles in 30-06 or .270 and the recoil felt more pleasant. Recoil tables say it shouldn’t feel that way to me but it does.
Don’t roll those bloodshot eyes at me.

Great cartridge. do you have a deal working on one? Very easy to load for. It did get lost in all the other calibers but is very accurate and effective. It has started making a resurgence
I had a Remington 700 C I bought at Hunter Bradlee in Dallas a long time ago. It was a great shooting rifle with the old Hornady 120 grain interlock, with H4831

Great caliber for general purpose Texas hunting. Recoil is very rifle dependant. My beater Marlin XL7 has noticeably less recoil than our Model 7s in 7mm-08. My brother has an older Browning BBR in 25-06 that is much sharper than my Marlin with the exact same load...

25-06 is my wife's primary hunting rifle. She has taken everything from multiple pigs in one shot, coyotes to full grown red stag. It's a fabulous caliber without too much kick. Very straight shooting caliber that doesn't lose too much at range. We shoot at our range from 200-800 yards extremely reliably with hornady ammo. I've even shot it out to 1000 yards on our range no problem. Probably wouldn't take any big deer game at distances past 500 yards but have shot aoudad and pigs that far no problem. It's a great gun. Not sure about the previous posts on recoil. Only experience is with the Savage we have. It also has a 26" bull barrel which helps I'm sure.

I think it's a great caliber for Texas hunting. It's the one rifle of mine that is never for sale. A couple of my buddies started off with them as kids. Recoil is not a concern. It is very mild.

My wife has an x bolt and loves it. To me it kicks sharper than my 308. With that said, she now is in love with my daughters new Browning 6.5 CM. I dont even hardly feel it

Just about the perfect cartridge for Texas hunting. A 120gr bullet at 3000ish fps provides results indistinguishable from the iconic 270/130gr. But, IME, the recoil of the 25 is just light enough that I can see the he reaction of the deer to the hit.
But, as a practical matter, one could load 120gr Ballistic Tips in a 7-08 and have similar results.
I would recommend basing your decision on the rifle itself...find one you like and buy it in either cartridge. Both will work just fine.

I have both a 25-06 and a 7mm-08, actually, I have 2 of each (why buy one when you can two....LOL) . I really like my Ruger 25-06 and it has killed several deer these past couple of years. I bought it used on this forum. My oldest son has taken a real liking to my Ruger 25-06 and I have to pry it away from him when we go hunting. The recoil on both these calibers is comparable, as far as I can tell. But I do shoot 120 grain bullets in the 7mm-08 and not the 140 grain that you can buy. I shoot the Hornady 117 grain SST bullets in the Ruger 25-06 and that rifle really loves those bullets. I used to shoot a Remington .243 but wanted more power, so I upgraded to the 25-06's and the 7mm-08's. Honestly, both are good calibers in my opinion. But I do prefer the 25-06. I don't think you can go wrong with either if your goal is to get a caliber that has less recoil than a .308, 30-06, etc. Good luck with your decision.

I love them. My middle schooler will shoot one all day long. I run 110gr Nosler Accubond in it and punch ragged one holers at 100yds. Flipped a doe with it at 150yds this year so its a great all around Texas round.
