One thing for sure is that he Didn't O.D. on Cannabis.

https://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/family-tom-petty-died-accidental-drug-overdose-002042691.html

Tom Petty died last year because of an accidental drug overdose that his family said occurred on the same day he found out his hip was broken after performing dozens of shows with a less serious injury.

His wife and daughter released the results of Petty's autopsy via a statement Friday on his Facebook page, moments before coroner's officials in Los Angeles released their findings and the rocker's full autopsy report. Dana and Adria Petty say they got the results from the coroner's office earlier in the day that the overdose was due to a variety of medications.

The coroner's findings showed Petty had a mix of prescription painkillers, sedatives and an antidepressant. Among the medications found in his system were fentanyl and oxycodone.

RIP

I think it's more of a doctor or doctors writing just way too many scripts.

Seems this happens when you have multiply docs writing prescriptions and then you mix a drug cocktails that kills you. It wasn't done on purpose just taking a deadly cocktail of pills that shouldn't be mixed.

I agree with this.

Some on here really like to point the finger at celebrities when they fall for various reasons. Some are deserving. Some are not.

Another life lost to the prescription drug problem sweeping the nation.

I will say since his death I have listened to his music far more than I did when the music was released. I've added about 10 songs to the playlist. Probably has more to due with my musical tastes changing.

Choices. Like the old George Jones song...Living and Dying With the Choices I've Made. All the excuses and intangibles for substance abuse mean nothing to the bottom line...choices 2cents

Nobody OD's on purpose yet the ER's are full of people overdosing daily, it's very common. My wife was an ER Director for many years working in Houston and Waco, her ER cases were mostly drug or alcohol related. Interesting part is who is coming in with the OD, it's not just your street walking addicts. There's no level of society immune to this, in fact some are worse than others, they just don't get the headlines and they're in the silent unreported numbers. Same goes for alcohol. While statistic say we have 20 to 30 million active alcoholic's at any one time, most agree that that number is probably twice as many. Reason being so many refuse to believe or admit they're alcoholic's or drug addicts so those numbers are never known. Numbers as high as 1 in 4 or 2 in 5 are estimates I've seen in some studies. Then when they do have to have medical treatment it's listed as Tom Petty was, accidental, in reality it should have been listed as inevitable.

Yes! A Weatherby does kill them deader.

After seeing a few posts on pot in the past month, itís interesting to see how many on here preach about how bad it is - yet no one in the history is mankind has ever ODíd on it.

But itís illegal so it must be bad!

I donít smoke it since itís illegal and would jeapordize my career. I do drink moderately on occasion though, and Iíve also been prescribed hydrocodone a few times. From what Iíve read and seen alcohol & Rx drugs have much worse long-term side-effects and are infinitely more dangerous if mixed or used in excess.

Itís comical to me to see people talk about pot being the devil because itís illegal and then also post in the whiskey threads about their favorite drink. popcorn

Alcohol is and will always be the number 1 gateway drug. I try not to get all temperance marcher about alcohol since not everybody has had to face the reality's I did about their own struggle with alcohol. Let's just say that had I continued I would not be here! Now that I'm in my 60's I can look back and realize how many friends I've lost to alcohol addiction. Of my old friends I believe that number is now 11 with 3 being suicide, 2 vehicle accidents, the others from alcohol related health issues. Many died before 50! Going on 4 years now without a drink and my health is better than it was 10 years ago.

Not only did I post in the Whiskey threads I'd start them, but mine were Whisky threads. Whiskey is rot gut! bolt

Did any of you all read about the broken hip etc?

You make a mistake about mixing some of this stuff and it's lights out.

I've been holding onto this for several years in case of an emergency. Think I should dump it?
