For anybody wondering about pig pipes.
This one has 1 each 1/2" hole near end.
It's filled with regular corn and a handfull of rocks that are too big to go thru hole.

Watch the time stamp in bottom right as this is made up of 10 second video clips stitched together.
She stays with it for a couple of hours.
Once they find your pipe, they will usually come back regularly.

Cheers,

How many holes do you drill in the pipe?

I drill them about every 6-8 inches on the 4 pig pipes I use. Seems to be about the right number to spill enough corn to keep 'em coming back while not dumping too much corn every time they roll it.

make sure to use the good pvc pipe not the cheap thin stuff or it will break, also I recommend using a couple swivels so the chain doesn’t bind up especially close to the bolt going in the lid, also know if the hogs fund it they can empty a pipe in a day or less so you have to constantly be able to monitor the pipes.

On a five-foot pipe, I put three holes. They are 3/8" diameter and spaced around the pipe. That way it takes the hogs about 4-5 days to empty it typically.

I have two unwritten rules:
1.
2.

I start with 2 each 1/2" holes, one near each end and on opposite sides of pipe.
After the pigs find it, I take a piece of flat metal flashing and put inside pipe near threaded opening.
That way, I close it down to one hole so the corn will last longer.

After they find it and know what it is:
With 3 holes, a couple of pigs will empty it in 1-1/2 - 2 hours.
With 2 holes, it may last 3-4 hours.
With only 1 hole, it will last 5-8 hours.

4" SCH40 (thick wall) - don't use the thin wall DWV stuff as pigs will destroy that pretty quickly.
I buy a 10' piece from box store and cut in half to make two pipes.

They have much shorter tie downs at tractor supply
Build them right first time and they will last

I fill a water bottle half way with Corn and drop in mine so the pipe always makes noise when they hit it even with very little or no corn in it.

Swivels are required as posted above.

You might want to glue some washers that you beat into a curve around the holes to keep the coons and squirrels from opening up the holes

Case In point:

Also minute Mark 4:14 shows why you want to use the proper swivel/anchor and not just a Tpost ....

Evidently they liked mine SO MUCH they stole it! Well, somebody stole it. Been using that pipe for 4 years and never had it broken loose from its anchor, so I think some two-legged hog carried it off.

The hogs broke one of my pipes off found it about 100 yds away when I was shredding one day.

I have 2 and in the summer and early fall they were all over the things. I had time stamp where they were there for 3-4 hrs. As soon as the acorns started falling they were gone. Now they are back, but not as long of a period as before.

I had been thinking it was squirrels eating the holes. I like the washer idea. up
