I see lots of lease offered just across the texas line into Oklahoma.

What are the drawback to hunting in OK vs Texas? Other than the cost of the license?

License cost $280 each season you hunt (Archery/Rifle/Muzzleloader) and as Pitchfork Pred stated the length of rifle season, its about 3 weeks long. This years started Nov. 18 and ended Dec. 3. Im fortunate to get to hunt opening weekend through the first 10 days of rifle but if you can only go up on weekends it will pass by quick!

Only drawbacks are cost of licence, as stated above and length of season. I was looking to buy land there and the season length was a deal breaker for me. Otherwise just like Texas.

If you bow hunt, there is no draw back. You can just use your archery license for all seasons.

You mean if you only use a bow, and not a gun during gun season. Is that right?

I believe thats that Booner1 is saying...if you bow hunt your non-res archery license is good all deer season Oct. thru mid Jan, but if you muzzleloader or rifle hunt then you're restricted to much shorter seasons for the same price as the archery license.

Rifle season is 17 days. Muzzleload is 10 I believe. Archery is close to the same. We have had two ranches in Oklahoma. I think over all the deer are better. This state produces some great deer. With that being said we are selling the Oklahoma ranch bought another in Texas and glad to have a rifle back in our hand. Ill tell you this, if you want to run some cows and have a great deer there is a lot of places that will help you pay for your land with the cows. Its amazing the grazing differences.

Archery runs Oct 1 to Jan 15. Rifle is about three weeks ((was 9 days up until 1990s) good thing is the rut is often full on that opening week rifle. IF you wanted to hunt Archery, Rifle, and Black Powder you would have to buy all three non resident license. 280.00 x 3. I have my lifetime Oklahoma hunting license but you have to live there to get that.
The deer tag includes your hunting license.

Public ground in Oklahoma is more abundant then Texas. Better managed.

Not much of a downside unless you are only rifle hunters.

^ if you are where the land is in mile grids from the land-run. I used to have a lot of land leased in OK when I was outfitting turkey hunts. There are great deer and just good overall hunting for most game. However, if you don't have a big spread and its where the land is a grid there are some outlaws that will cruise the outer bands of your property.

We hunted an hour NW of Enid. Watched the neighbor poach a nice big 10 that I was watching and waiting to get closer for a shot. Neighbor shot directly at me. Game Warden acted like I was the bad guy and ridiculed me from being from Texas, nothing happened to the neighbor

How much an acre are you selling the land and how much land do you have?

Something to consider many places also have elk and or bear seasons.

My ranch sometimes has elk, mulies, whitetails and pasture maggot pronghorns... but thatís $900+ in tags.

When I lived there, back in the 90s, I looked to get on a lease but when I found out there was only a nine day gun season I decided to save my money. Like everyone says there are some good deer but the season just isn't long enough to me.

Good news is you can buy a crossbow for 200$ and shoot up to 75 yards with a scope. Win. Win.

We did find a cow dead about 40 yards from the road with an arrow in her. Game Warden came out and took the arrow thinking he would keep an eye out on arrow of people he deals with. Never heard anything else about it but this shows they shoot cows to just to see what happens.
