Anyone tell me where I can get a good 20% protein pellet(I'm open for suggestions) on the east side of DFW (within 50 miles or so east)
This is for whitetails

Have a couple of new 2000lb protein feeders I want to get going soon.

How is bulk usually handled?
Thank you in advance

If you are buying bulk you will have to have a buggy with an auger to fill your feeders or use a service that can deliver and fill your feeders for you.

A couple of 2000# feeders doesn't take that much time to fill if you have to buy bags. I have know idea where to get protein on your side of town but someone will come along that can point you in the right direction I'm sure.

Good luck!

No it doesn't take long but that's 40 bags to the feeder. No fun on a ladder in the hot summer. Several of the feed store near us let you use their feed buggie if your buying Protein from them. Los Cazadores and Mummies both do.

If you have a front end loader you can get pallets of sacked feed. Filling off the pallet is much easier but probably not osha approved.

Have the deer been fed protein before or are any of the neighbors feeding? How many deer do you think you will have using these two feeders? IME the biggest mistake I see made is when people start to feed in an area where the deer have never seen protein or a protein feeder is the fill the feeder completely full when starting out. If the deer have never seen protein, I would put a bag of corn in each feeder to train them to eat from the feeder. Then mix one bag of corn and one bag of protein to start them on protein. After they eat that, I would put 2-4 bags of protein in each feeder. Then judge how long it takes to eat it all up. Then only put in a enough feed to last 4-6 weeks. Nothing worse than trying to train deer to eat, then once you get them started they are eating 2000# of old feed. Keep the feed as fresh as you can and fill the feeders to what the deer can eat up completely. That keeps the feed fresh, keeps weevil/brown bugs out of feed and that will keep the feed from getting moldy. Mold can happen since pellets are manufactured with some moisture. Dark colored feeders hold a lot more heat, heat in a humid climate makes pellets mold if they are not being consumed in good quantities on a daily basis.
I would do bag feed till the volume gets high enough to warrant bulk. Some feed stores offer feeding filling services and some even have bulk. Some have trailers to use and some offer filling with their own bulk truck. Used to be that bulk was about $25-$30/ton cheaper than bagged feed when comparing both of them delivered in the same quantities to a ranch.
