I am a Texas A&M student, and just starting to get into duck hunting. I've hunted my whole life, but never been much of a duck hunter till recently. Was curious if there would be anyone willing to stick another hunter in there boat one morning before the season ends? I am willing to drive and meet up anywhere generally close, and will pay if need be. Just don't want to go through the hassle of getting a guide and finding buddies willing to pay to hunt also. Don't really care how "good" the hunt is, just trying to learn from someone with experience, calling/setting up decoys/blind set-ups, etc. I get back next Tuesday, let me know if you would be up for it!

You'll find the college station area tough to get access to. Your best bet is to try public areas most of which are a minimum hour drive to hunt high pressure areas, but you can still get on some birds. There are better places within the 1.5-2 hr driving window. Also, don't rule out a weekend trip to the coast lots of public land down there especially if you are young and willing to put in some work. (walking and packing gear in boot sucking mud)

Locally, it's all private land that is getting chopped up and developed, or is locked up and being hunted by generations of family and friends along the Navasota and Brazos Rivers. Unless you get in good with a private landowner that has no interest in duck hunting it'll be extremely difficult to get anything within 30 minutes of town.

Best of luck

We hunt Somerville, its a very high pressured area. But you can usually get away with a bird or two each time. Id think about trying the Richland Creek WMA in Freestone county, or down south. Got a buddy I work with that hunts a WMA about an hour outside of Angleton. He has to get there about a day before he wants to hunt though to get a spot, they only let 100 or so groups in a day, and are only open on weekends I believe. But he limits out almost every time he hunts out there. It is just about 2.5 to 3 hours for a limit of teal.
