Had some pretty thick ice this morning. Wasn't a great hunt but shot a few. We originally sat up in a draw and there was an area with open water and the ice that was there wasn't very thick. We then moved over to the larger body of the lake. My friend hit one that sailed and ended up going down and sliding way out on some ice. I sent Kimber for it and she broke ice for about 10-15 yards but then couldn't break it anymore no matter how hard she tried. I waded out there and the water depth was just below my waders and I couldn't get her lifted up on it and I couldn't break it. I don't think there was a safe way for either of us to get to it. This dog is something else. It's amazing they can swim in those conditions and live through it much less love doing it. It was her first hunt dealing with ice. free unlimited image hosting

We drove the boats around and broke out a good radius around our spread yesterday morning. A few spots still gave him some trouble though. I also felt like I should have worn shin guards to set up...some of it was still over an inch thick and could support my weight near the bank. We had a fantastic morning, all the frozen ponds in the area seemed to bring all the ducks to the big lake for us.

Scooby? Send me some pics. He's still doing good? Yup...gettin' old! Turned 9 on Dec 15th. He's laid up for a day after hunts now. That's great! I've only been able to keep up with about half the litter.
