The clip ons good to go or is the dedicated thermal rifle scope the way to go? Want to jump into the thermal game and have been eyeing the Pulsar XQ38 but then there's the clip on thing where I can retain my day scope (vx-r Patrol) and then throw the clip on for the piggies.

IMHO, get a couple of good QD mounts like Larue and use each scope for what they're best at. No good reason for clip-ones anymore.

Clip ons are way better than nothing. But for the same money, you can get a dedicated TWS, that will serve its purpose better . Day optic quality means nothing, you’re focused on a tv screen . Schmitt + Bender will yield same quality image as 200$ Nikon...... My opinion, worth what you paid for it

In my opinion.....for whatever that is worth.... You really need a good reason to buy a clip-on. Most of my customers who buy clip-on have a very expensive custom rifle and a high end scope like a Schmidt & Bender, Swarovski, Zeiss etc. Their rifle and scope setup is their "baby". They can't imagine using something else just because it's night time. Clip-on is a logical choice when you are married to your rifle/scope setup. The misconception is that good clip-ons are the same price or cheaper than a dedicated thermal scope. $1,500 less will get you a dedicated thermal rifle scope that has the same or better image quality than a clip-on. For the same exact money, you can get a Pulsar trail rifle scope that will record video, has a battery pack, wifi/phone app and all the other bells and whistles. Again, I don't hate clip-on, you just get a LOT less for your money unless you have a real reason for it. Just my 2 cents! - Jason

I've heard what I needed to hear. Outdoor Legacy, you have any XQ38's or XQ38 LRF's in stock? Unfortunately no I don't have any in stock and also, the Apex LRF models were discontinued in the US. There will be some more expensive Trail LRF models coming out later this year. I have a back order list for the XQ38's but I have a ton of them on order with Pulsar. If they could make them fast enough to fill orders, I'd have them sitting on the shelf.lol I just had a customer needing an Apex "now" and he couldn't wait, so I checked the inventory of several dealers that frequent this forum hoping to send him to one of them and they too are all out of stock. Unfortunately you'll probably have to get on someone's back order list and hopefully the shipments will start rolling in soon from Pulsar. - Jason
