It greatly burdens me to have to say that the duck hunting community lost a good man yesterday in a tragic tractor accident.

Gerald Plumlee was a friend of mine I met when I moved to Sherman, Tx and he didn’t waste anytime showing me his favorite honey holes. He was a loving husband and a father of 3. Coached football for Sherman, and would go out of his way for anybody.

As I lay here in bed, unable to sleep...I keep replaying so many memories with the guy. One rainy evening I was doing some scouting in a duck hole he pointed out to me, about 40 miles west of town. I was stumbling my way down a dim road, when my truck slid off into a ditch full of freezing water. My truck was practically on its side and I had to crawl out the passenger door to get free. I was alone, and far away from any help. I called “Plumdog” right away. With a half chuckle he said, “Man! I can’t leave you alone for 5 min....I’m on my way”.

He was 20 miles east of town, and still would have came even if it was 1000. The son of a bitch would of relished it.

He wasn’t a member of this forum, he kept a pretty tight circle of friends, but he LOVED the outdoors.

As you hit the field and start dropping decoys, and breaking ice....remember Plumdog, say a prayer, and hit that mallard call a few extra times for a friend we lost.

Thanks.

Good friends are few and far between, sorry for your loss

There is time, and you must take it, to lay your hand on your dog's head as you walk past him lying on the floor or on his settle, time to talk with him, to remember with him, time to please him, time you can't buy back once he's gone" GBE

Indeed. I feel even more blessed to have been able to share a blind today with the friend who almost forced me to go on my first duck hunt years ago. Today was the first hunt we’ve been on in over two years and it was his birthday.

Sorry for your loss, but thank you for the reminder that we need to cherish the special hunts.
