I’ve never been disappointed in any savage I’ve ever owned.

Are those 3 lugs and a 60° bolt throw, like the RPR?

have no idea. I don’t own one but have a few friends who love their Ruger American predators.

Shot you a pm (pun only have intended) on how your buddy might score a good deal on a Tikka.

Ruger American. The stocks are flimsy, but can be stiffened up with epoxy poured into the inside of the interior void areas. The action is surprisingly good and more accurate than any M77 I've shot.

Rugers are good, Id look at a Savage FCP or predator. Hard to beat for the price and shoot great out of the box.

But I'd have him sit or find a deal on a Tikka, that's the best way to go..

Yes, 70 degree bolt throw, which is the same for all of them with that action including the RPR.

My buddy just bought the new Remington 6.5. Put it in a Manners with a Timney and he put 4 in a Skoal can at 480 yards with handloaded 143s. YMMV

I just bought a Thompson Center Venture and I've read a lot of good reviews on them. They have some pretty good features for the price. They offer the 6.5 Creedmoor on the Weathershield model. The stock comes pillar bedded. We shall see when I get it, but I think it's going to be a good one.

Laughing because I've done that before. Reading is hard.

It's a $400 gun. The mods aren't necessary. My apologies for suggesting a rifle that is cheaper than the tikka and can be upgraded as budget allows unlike some of the other suggestions.

I thought it was agreed, standard procedure buying a Rem 700, immediately means also buying a Timney trigger for it.

Ruger American Predator. I bought one just for the fun of it... 110% enough accuracy to do anything you need a rifle to do, other than high volume target shooting. Nice tight 3-shot groups. After #3, the barrel would heat up and touch the stock out on the end. It would shank #4 or #5, but not by much. Still exceeded accuracy requirements for a hunting rifle by quite a bit. And with a little elbow grease and a bastard file, that issue could be fixed pretty quick.

That gun is hard to beat for the money. Accutrigger, Accustock, medium profile barrel with fluting to reduce weight, threaded barrel. They run rebates on it pretty often too.

My brother had been wanting to upgrade his 270 to something with more range and less recoil, so I found one of those last year with a B&C stock for $500. I bought it and sold the stock for $150 and basically ended up with the rifle alone for $350. Maybe one of the best gun deals I've ever made.

ETA: the Savage 11VT is another good option. Dick's Sporting Goods runs them sometimes for $399 with a scope. But be forewarned that the scope isn't very good and that rifle is great for bench use, but it's a really heavy profile barrel and probably too heavy for most hunting situations. But the one I had in 308 was an absolute tack-driver.

Just missed the savage rebate promotion. Savage combo with nikon bdc is a great buy. I got one and ready to shoot it more. Just trying to decide on what ammo.
