Every trip I've planned from September through today did not go as planned. Front pushes birds out before I get there, rains flood the place during the weekend I planned to hunt, and my last available time for this deer season canceled due to the Wife having the flu.
Anyone else have an off season? taz

That does bite. Fortunately my wife wants me to get out of the house when she gets sick. Our kids are pretty much grown, or that would be another story.

I am just the opposite and a big baby when I get sick though and want someone around to take care of me.

I'd be the same way, if the wife, a RN, had any bedside manner whatsoever when it comes to me. Our daughter, a MD, has even less sympathy.

I'm on day 1 of a cold. New Year's weekend does not look promising.

^^^ Cold here too. Coughing, spitting, sputtering. Head just started hurting today. Haven't had alcohol in a few days. That didn't work so it's toddy time. cheers

Between work and family obligations, I've only had two solid trips to the ranch. No deer have fallen on my behalf this season and probably wont.

Huh yup, Slimpickin. I haven't had anything come thru either. But I've had 2 or 3 rifles on the bench zeroing with a bore laser and gettin' glass squared away. Haven't even been to the shootin range yet, much less hunting.
I'm going 6.5 Grendel on my AR, so puttin' the right scope on it (from the ones I have) is a deal. But I just about got the scope height and eye relief done and ready for zeroing also. After I get them field-zero'd I might deserve the dancing banana too!
I'm hoping 2018 will be a much better year.

I have hunted every week since the opening of rifle season and haven't seen a shooter buck. Maybe I should have stayed home. Had to shoot a doe a couple of days ago because she had a broken leg.

This person is either divorced or has not been married long.
When they suffer, they expect you to suffer as well.
It's kind of a double edged sword, because you can use it back on them when you want to go fishing later on....Member when you were sick honey, and how I took care of you?
If they tell you they don't want you around when they are sick, don't believe it....They will use that one against you even years later so just be warned.
Been married 47 years and have tried all the tricks.
I've had to back out of a hunting or fishing trip at the last minute more than a few times, just to save harmony.

Humor Jimbo. It's called "dry humor".

True story. My wife can tell you what I screwed up in 1985.

Slim, except for your wife being sick, that is called "hunting." Your wife getting sick is called "life."

Not all of us married trophy wives, LOL.

I got me a 'prairie wife.' She says what she means and means what she says. If she says she is well enough for me to go hunt, I go hunt. She may have me go get her some hot and sour soup from the Chinese food place or some meds or other supplies before I leave or may send me a text to bring back some meds when I return, but otherwise, she is a real trooper. When she truly needs help, she will ask for it and I will provide it.

Between the old house and new one it's been busy, neither of us have fired a shot this year, I plan on calling it good so I can get things finished up. Thinking about shutting the hunting down next year just to give the place a rest and let the little guys get some age on them. Quail took a pretty good hit this year so it looks like that hunting is out also.I guess it's going to be an extended vacation from hunting. I'll still yote hunt daily but that will be on the big ranch and always on the lookout for hog's.

Yes! A Weatherby does kill them deader.

I'm building my own home. I'm all buy dried in but I scheduled two hunts and they are both in the books.
1st was September elk and it was the slowest elk hunt I've had of 3.
2nd was Oklahoma public deer was fortunate enough to get some venison for the freezer on that trip.

No Deer harvest, but got a chance to look this guy over and drop two Hogs the same day. Made the season worth it after all. Maybe this East Texas Buck will come visit again next year. He was too close to call standing at 160 yards out...so I let him walk.
