In theory yes but the OAL is what matters most. Cylinder needs to be just shorter than the window of the gun and still head space properly. I bought a WMR cylinder for my 1965 model and it worked but I had the seller measure it first. Not sure if this one is an Old Model or New Model cylinder but they differ in length. It would be nice to know if this one is blued or stainless, Old or New Model, and the measurements.

Pass the gravy.

I called ruger about getting a different cylinder for mine when I was younger and they said I would have to send the gun in to time the cylinder property or something akin to that. In short they said you couldn't just buy a cylinder and put it in even if you ordered it from them, they needed the gun to do it. I apologize for getting in on this, but don't want to see someone get injured. If the information I was given is incorrect I apologize.

If you can read and understand instructions on the Internet you can successfully buy a second hand Ruger single action cylinder with no issues. Ruger has lawyers and lawsuits to worry about. Timing isn't really a factor with a properly made cylinder. As stated head space and cylinder gap and fit are.

Pass the gravy.

Thank you for the comments and feel what gasguzzler is saying appears correct to me, however, I'm certainly not an expert on the matter.

I would be willing to return funds if cylinder does not properly fit. It sounds to me the upfront most important thing to identify is whether the cylinder is old model or new model single six.

If anyone knows exact measurements to determine difference or any additional information, please PM me with info. I will also do some independent research on whether the cylinder is new model or old model.

I can tell you what you have if you send or post the pics. I will try to explain here to make sure y'all know I'm trying to help and not crap a thread or steal a deal.

I'm pretty sure the Single Six size frame has less variance Old to New Model than the full size frame Blackhawk.

If the cylinder is stainless or non-fluted it's a New Model. Ruger didn't make any stainless Old Models and Ruger didn't make any smooth .22WMR cylinders until the New Model came out.

It seems simple to then say if the cylinder is blued and fluted it's an Old Model cylinder but that's not the case either. For the first little bit of the New Model production, the Single Six WMR guns had left over fluted cylinders. Does that matter?

Maybe not.....see my above comments on the Single Six size frame varying much less. The full size frame grew a little with the New Models.

Honestly more people have issues deciphering an Old Model LR cylinder from an Old Model WMR cylinder since they are both fluted. I can help with that too if needed.

For what it's worth the hand and cylinder latch have a lot more to do with timing than the cylinder and its notches. Ruger made many many thousands of convertible Single Sixes and I doubt there's any way Ruger would allocate the manpower to hand match a machined and finished part like a cylinder to each gun.

Forcing cone to recoil shield on my 1965 OMSS (model RSS5) is 1.410". The main body of the two cylinders are different lengths to accommodate the different rounds but the fitment difference between my two cylinders is 0.0017" at the front on my OMSS. It's nearly impossible for a layman like me to measure the ratchet end difference as the entire profile is different between the two types of cylinders (LR spaces on rim, WMR spaces on mouth) so there's no apples to oranges on the backside (recessed vs firing pin groove).

I probably made it worse adding in some of the measurements.

Measure for yourself, buyer AND seller.

Pass the gravy.

Thanks again. It is blued and not fluted. Side of cylinder is marked "22 Win. Magnum Cal." and then has the Ruger Logo. I believe it to be a new model cylinder.

I will send gasguzzler pics separately to help ID.

The cylinder has been confirmed to be a "new model" cylinder
