Anyone been duck hunting Around brownwood area?

Duck reports? Anything good?

I hunt little stock ponds down there.

Was in Bowie this past weekend and just shy of a 4 man limit Sunday.

My friends in brownwood who are avid duck hunters have only hunted 1 time this year due to the severe lack of birds and they have a ton of ground to hunt.

Live Just a little bit east of there, about 50 miles. Good numbers on some private lakes and pitiful numbers on others that have been good producers in the past. Location, location location. but there are some decent numbers around.

Even thought there never were any ducks in central texas, it's science I know, I still miss hunting there. I've moved. I'm now a full time, when I do go, gulf coaster. Of course there are no ducks here either. More science. My luck. And my dog hates my guts.

Bentman, what county is your lease in?

And did your birds come for your lease?

Coleman cnty. Yes the birds come from there. I can't hunt because I have a bad foot these are just a few pics from some friends that I let hunt. I own some land but I lease every tank that I have seen birds on,that comes available to me. Lots of knocking on doors. I've seen a few outfitters out my way so I decided to do something about that. The best advice I could give anyone about hunting small tanks is do not pressure the birds if you are not scouting or not going to hunt a certain tank leave it alone don't even go near it. During duck season no deer hunting and no unnecessary riding around.

did you scout where you hunted the day before? Typically I want hunt a tank unless it has 25 ducks on it. Right now I have 2 tanks that have 40 to 50 pintail on each tank. A 1 bird limit on pintail sucks, I want even hunt those birds this yr.

No, I generally don’t/ can’t scout. The place I hunt is public and is about an hour and a half away so I generally just go and hunt. I realize the chance for success isn’t great, but I usually see more ducks in the sky than I did today, that’s for sure. It’s a lake, with that front blowing down and with the wind being so strong, I kind of just found a shoreline that was protected from the wind and set up in there. I may just go back to some ponds around the main lake again Friday.

Shouldn't Texas be covered in birds if the rest of the US is frozen and covered in snow?

Actually the US is not covered up in snow.where I hunt in Nebraska is full of birds, the rivers are froze up but plenty of food in the fields. I've hunted SD & NE when it was -5 and 8" of snow on thecground
