I have noticed more than usual at my place in Montague County.

I would be interested to know how water would be a negative impact on the deer. Generally speaking, they had plenty of forage this year because of the early rains and so antlers have grown very well.

The big Roman Nosed old guy I shot earlier this month at my BinL's place in Fayette County had his left side broke off about 3+"s above his head and apparently continued to fight regularly, as the top of the stump was broomed off smooth and the edgebeginning to curl over so the very top was bigger around than the shaft of the Antler. He was missing some tines on his right side too, that left nuthin but lumps and also were smoothed over from contact with something. Overall his antlers however did look like he was going into the Old Age Decline and not producing as much Antler material as he probably had in the past, but was healthy and est'd to weigh 150/160lbs live weight.

BinL's place and surrounding properties have lots of forage, and the mottes of tree's and undergrowth were still leafed out the 1st week of December. If the weather is decent and not bitter cold teens & '20'ish or raining the 1st week of January, it'll be interesting to see what those pastures look like a month later.

my brother is 54 I'm 57 the only thing unusual in our county is excessive early rain. Only two brothers theorizing no biologist in this family. But if my brother says Rooster dips snuff there will be snuff can under that roosters wing.

Always. After October 1 its blendered horns. Hate it. Nothin worse than hunting a one antlered deer or just busted up. More bucks less doe = (,,)

Recently got a gym membership, strange folks! I like to show up the roid zombies with my full motion curls with the 55lb. bells. Not their cheater short stroked light weights. It's holarious.

Yep. Plenty of ladies make for less fights. I’ve noticed that ranches with colder winters also have higher broken antler %.

October is the month to hunt trophys.

More rain usually promotes more antler growth due to better nutrition from more available forage. We didn't have any particularly large amounts of rain until June, but May was almost as many inches shy of rain as June was over. Before those two months we were running about par each month, but were about an inch behind for the first 4 months.

So I don't know. I don't see anything astoundingly off overall.

I found the same condition in Dickens county. Had a chance to bring my grandsons and son in law to our place and to my surprise we had lots of bucks but I'd estimate that 70 plus percent had broken racks. I'm thinking the good news is they have gotten a pass till next years and we should have a really large base of potential trophies.

We have a lot of broke horns every year since the drought was at the peak.
I think the buck to doe ratio is closer than ever in a lot of places due to poor fawn crops 5 and 6 years ago. This leads to a lot more fighting and limb rattling by competing bucks.
I would say that one in four buck with 8 points or more on our place is broke in some way. Maybe one in three.

I have also seen more broke beams and tines this year, I have also seen a lot more buck fights this year than in years past. My ratio is about 1/1 bucks to doe, I would say that the cold and wet weather has kept the bucks more aggressive.

We probably have 4 or 5 completely half racks this year where broken at the base or pedicle fairly early in the season. One mature buck I was after broke off left main beam just past the g2 before I could get back to the lease during bow season.

Just my 2 cents, I saw more broken antlers this year also. Probably just coincidence, IMO. Also I shot a 20" wide 8 with two broken tines, obviously he was a fighter.

Seen tons of broken antlers in the Throckmorton area both at the lease and at the processor. I have noticed our lease has more bucks than doe so I figured that was why, lots of fighting. We do have 2 studs on camera that are still in perfect condition antler wise.

I didn't notice broken tines, but i did notice the number of doe was way down to an almost even buck-to-doe ration in Kerr county as well
