Curious as I believe this is a match bullet.

Anyone use these on game?

Will it work? With good shot placement- Sure. But. Most match BTHP bullets are inconsistent on what kind of performance you get. I have had them ice-pick through an animal (one small hole going in and same size hole going out) and I have had them grenade and leave no exit at all. And I've had some in between results with performance on par with some good hunting bullets. The reason why we use a quality hunting bullet is to get a consistent performance of expansion vs penetration, depending on which type of bullet you shoot. There are some good dual purpose bullets that will be good for hunting and for target shooting. Some would be

Hornady A-max, ELD-M, ELD-X
Berger VLD-H, Elite Hunter, Classic Hunter
Nosler LR Accubond (if you can get it to shoot good)
(Possibly) Sierra Tipped Match King (haven't tried this one yet, but the tip would help initiate expansion, just not sure of over expansion)

Shot a 75-85lb pig last weekend with my 6mm Rem and 105bthp hand load and it destroyed both shoulders, broke the off side completely into...

Chad, no doubt, Designated "Game" bullets are consistent on game, typically. Non-game bullets vary, though some are quite effective. What round/speed were you using the 140s in and what was the shot placement? I used a TNT in a 6BR on a deer at 200 yds, destroyed both lungs, very short death run, another in a 243 RSI No. 1A, about 45 yds, almost took the head off. I always confine "Soft" bullets either head/neck and/or Lungs broadside. I would avoid hitting shoulders and pass a shot typically, especially using that 70gr (which I used as that was what those guns were sighted in for at the time). Used a 105 Amax in another BR, 400 yds, double lunged, they work great, but blow on closer shots on bone

As "E1" says above, I have heard great reports over the years on the 6mm BTHP on deer, 87 IIRC and thought their 140 might be similar.

T-bone, yes I noticed the sale, and thought I'd get a small sampling of hunts w/the BTHP. The 130 AB drilled shoulders from a former 260 and is my load in a 6.5L

Thanks guys.

I have not specifically shot the 6.5mm 140 BTHP on game. I have taken some critters with 308 Win and 168 BTHP Hornady bullets. It did fine. I didn't get an exit on a pig, but the pig dropped. So it worked. In all reality, a well placed 140 grain BTHP in a 6.5 CM should work. I would try it just to try it (I'm like that). The only BTHP bullets I've had good feed back on were the 139 Scenars. They dropped a lot of animals out of a 260 Rem a few years ago.

I've tried the 6.8SPC with BTHP American Gunner and was not impressed on hogs.

I saw th sale on 6.5CM but decided to skip out. Sure was cheap even for the bras but I rather waste barrel life on good handloads or at least soemthing I can hunt with.

Good practice rounds to get you some brass at the very least.

No doubt, where are the better ranges in the Dallas area? Thanks.

what is it about berger jackets VS the others that make them such good game bullets in your opinion? i know lots of people talk about them for game but condone other HPBT for hunting so i was just wondering.

With so many excellent "hunting" bullets, why do people insist on using "match" bullets for hunting?

Cuz after they spend $2500 on a lease, $1000 on corn, $1500 on gas/travel/food, etc., that $.72/rd on those 8 rounds they'll shoot this year makes all the difference in the world...

I simply asked about others experience, 130 ABs like other hunting bullets have served me well, and will continue.

Didn't take pics of the pig but here's what the 105bthp did to a mature buck. Took out both front shoulders and found jacket under hide on off side.

I pretty much agree with you... for the guys that are hunters and not a recreational shooters I think it's an inhumane chump move to save $.50 and shoot an animal with a target bullet, when you only shoot 2-3 boxes of ammo a year. spend a few extra bucks and get some premium hunting bullets.

On the other hand, I say shoot the ammo that you are the most confident in your shot placement with. If buying cheap target ammo means that you go to the range more and shoot your rifle more often, then you're a lot more proficient and therefore more capable of making a humane shot. It would be different if we were talking about big game, but it doesn't take much to kill a deer.

Easy answer is shoot something like the Hornady ELD-X bullets that are designed to be a high-BC accurate hunting bullet. I've shot some of their creedmoor factory loads and they're extremely accurate, and the es/SD isn't awful.
