New to this page first time ever posting. Me and a friend of mine are looking into going on a management whitetail hunt January 7-10 and we are fixing to book with Weitz Ranch in London Texas. Was just curious if anybody on here has ever been there or knows anybody that has been there. It seems like a great place but neither of us have ever gone to a ranch like this and paid for a hunt so just looking for some tips and reviews. Thank y’all in advance !

Never heard of them, but the lodge and setting sure look nice.

However, I would have a couple concerns with their pricing and up-charges of $100 inch over 125". The second part that scares me is the deer will be gross scored by one of two Weitz family members, and their score is final. The other thing that would bother me, and I have NEVER heard of this on any package hunt I've been on...if the deer has tines broken off, they will use the length of the same, intact tine from the opposite side of the antlers as the length of the broken tine.

Good luck on your hunt!

Yeah. The verbage is a little troubling. Caveat Emptor. Looks like a management hunt would become costly very quickly.

You did what?

So they are going to charge you for tines that aren't there anymore? Hmmm that's a no go for me....

What if both are broken off? Do they just come up with some arbitrary number?

Thank you all for your input I appreciate it ! We asked all of those questions before we booked just to clear everything up and got it taken care of. The owner seems like a real good guy and is going to take care of us. Will let y'all know how it goes, and if it goes well then maybe y'all can give it a shot. Thank y'all again and good luck on the rest of the hunting season.

I've been chewing on your initial post all day. Dunno why, but it got stuck in my craw. I've been package hunting Texas whitetails for a bunch of years and I've learned a couple things that may aid you in the future.

NEVER hunt a ranch that has a per inch above x inches fee.

Always have an impartial party score the deer when possible. If not, have the outfitter agree to let you score the deer after he does. While BOTH of you help one another score the deer. Can't imagine a huge difference between the two unless and abnormally large non-typical. Exception would be an outfitter/land owner you know well and would trust with your wallet and the keys to your home.

Pay for broken tines? rofl NEVER! What happens if both 4's are broken off? Does the final score then default to trailcam photos?

Hunt with someone who's got years of experience, good country and agree on price beforehand. I like the 150-159, 160-169, 200-220 pricing offered by most ranches outfitting for trophy whitetails.

I can't comment on their deer hunting operation but I have known Mr. Bob and Doyle for a long time, you are dealing with some really good people.

Almost forgot to update y'all on our hunt on Weitz Ranch. It was everything as advertised and then some! Everything about the hunt was perfect. The ranch is awesome right on the llano river, the cabin is 5 star, there are deer everywhere you look and also exotics. Anything from nubbin bucks to 250" bucks Doyle has it all. The cook is as good as they come and you wont eat anything you don't like! We ended up with a 145" 11 point, 138" 8 point and 115" 8 point and also our 6 does. I will try and figure out how to upload all the pictures but they are on my phone and I am on my computer. If you are looking for a guided hunting trip I would highly recommend Weitz Ranch. Every person you'll meet from the guides and ranch hand to the owner of the entire ranch are great people. I will definitely be making it a once a year tradition.
