I am probably putting the cart before the horse on this. We have applied for a Texas Youth Hunting Program Hunt in Blanco County in early February. They have not picked the hunters yet but we are trying to do a little pre-planing and a lot of praying. If he is selected the plan is to drive down Friday 2/2/2018. If we leave at noon we can be at Johnson City around 8:00 -10:00. Then leave early to mid morning heading out to the ranch.

Any one know of a cheap place to stay? I am even interested in a tent camp space where we can sleep in the Suburban!!!

Thank You
Robert

Blanco state park. Very nice. Good places to eat in town too.

You may not have time but they stock rainbow trout in the river. Might take a couple of light spinning outfits, just in case.

Pedernales State Park isn't too far from Johnson City. Depending on where the actually hunting property is, Dripping Springs or Blanco might be another possibility

^^^Yep. Lots of beautiful state parks nearby. Pedernales falls is especially nice.

Thanks Guys, If selected we will be at the Bamburger Preserve Ranch. If I take him out of school at noon he is counted present for the day, and he is already missing on Friday. This will be a fast hard trip, but a State Park might be just what we need.

Thank You

Looking at google earth I can reroute through Blanco, stay at the Blanco State Park, take the canoe and let him fish Thursday evening / Friday Morning and be withing 15 miles of the ranch. I will be closer to the ranch and only add 5 miles to the trip.

Thank you guys sounds like a fantastic trip for a 14 year old.
