I am in search of a Vizsla puppy as well as someone who are good at training Vizsla's for retreiving. Any recommendations?

I got my vizsla from Julie LaRue at Bravo Vizslas. She's been a great resource for information. She also has Been breeding V's for a long time. Give her a call.

Bravo had a very nice litter, but they are all spoken for.

Huntmore vizsla is the club breeder referral for north Texas.
I would send them a email, as there are some breeders in Texas that I would stay away from.

Are you looking for a trainer for your 2 year old vizsla, or your new one?

Shopping with your husband is like hunting with the game warden.
Experience is what you get, when you didn't get what you wanted.

I gave Julie a yell last night but she won't have anymore until the spring. As for my two year old, I was thinking about getting her training, but I don't think she will hack it and my wife is not too keen on sending her away. So for Christmas I am looking for a new Vizsla Puppy I can send off to train.

Julie is a great gal. Her pro trainer Tim Hidalgo is where my dog is. He also has 3 of her dogs. It's pretty awesome seeing these dogs in real life. Several of Julie's dogs are field trail champions/national champions. That is the reason I chose Bravo Vizslas in addition to Julie being super knowledgeable.

Sounds like Julie is the one in Texas. Had another person I emailed point me to her. Might have to hold off on getting one until she has some available.

There is a breeder in South Lake that has a litter on the ground, we were over playing with the puppies about 3 weeks ago. clap I was told the puppies would not be going home until they were three months, so they should be closing in on that.

This is a hunting buddy and his wife, so I hunt behind their dogs every year. They are both very active in the Trinity Valley Vizsla Club, and they pretty much have couple of dogs with Tim Hidalgo all the time. (He is a great trainer.)

She has not advertised the litter and, last I heard, they were only about half spoken for. She is passionate about her dogs and it can be tough get one of her puppies... you have to interview with her, and if she does not think you, your family, and your home are right for the dog, she will not budge. That can be a little intimidating, but they are in it for the breed and the dogs, not for the money.

I will IM their info.

We all need to practice Whoa more.

I ended up finding one via Ray Cooper at Coopers Redneck Kennels in Longview, TX. He is a co-founder of the National Vizsla Association. Pretty good rep from what I have read. Thanks for all the suggestions.

My youngest Vizsla has titles in AKC, HRC, and NAVHDA. Past member of three different Vizsla Clubs and the VCA, but I have never heard of the National Vizsla Association. confused2

If I was wanting a Vizsla that will be doing a lot of retrieving, I would be looking for NAVHDA versatility titles in the parents as well as the size of the parents. Maybe even AKC retriever titles. But I am sure the pup will work out for you.

Know that Vizslas are not "retievers", they are pointing and or versatile dogs that can be used for retrieving. If your going with a retriever trainer, make sure they have worked with Vizslas. If the parents are field trail competition dogs which I am guessing the NVA is, a retriever trainer will have his hands full. On top of that, Vizslas tend to be soft and shut down with traditional retriever training.

Do please keep us updated on the pup and it's progress.

I understand that they aren't retrievers, but as you are aware they are versatile dogs that can do it. I have been looking at various trainers in Texas and a few have experience with Vizslas. So that's something I am keeping in mind when choosing the right trainer.

Thanks for the feedback and I'll keep the group up to date. Won't have the pup until Jan 20th, so still have time to find the right trainer.

I got a Vizsla pup from Ray back in the summer. She was born on 07/04/17. Very cute dog.... LOTS of energy! They are Velcro dogs for sure!
