Wanting a new caliber. Considering a 6.5 creed, .240 wby mag, or 25-06. Will be used primarily for deer. Thoughts?

Of your choices, 6.5 Creedmoor.

Way easier (and cheaper) to get ammo, short action, lower recoil, will do what you need it to do. I'd take a 7mm-08 or .308 Win over the other two on your list as well.

Agree with Jason, 6.5 Creedmoor but would also suggest you look at the 7mm-08

I have a question for OP, what draws you towards .240 WBY MAG? I always found that an interesting if, dare I say, useless cartridge.

The .25-06 I have used and have seen used on game does a dandy job of putting stuff down when you put the bullet where it needs to go: WT bucks/doe, BB buck, aoudad ram, ibex ram/nanny. I want a 6.5 Creedmoor myself, but I don't have any experience with it. Take that as you will!

I like the creedmoor as well, but will say have the longest relationship with the 25-06. My 25-06 with 100 grain bullets is awesome out to 400 yards without much thought--and does pretty good with 115 bergers too. Most 240s are twisted with 1-10s and struggle with anything over 95-100 grain bullets--so would be hard to take advantage of the cool 105-115 bullets available for all that powder you will be burning. I will say one of the coolest DRT shots I have ever seen was with a 240 weatherby and 80 grain Barnes bullet on a pronghorn...I will say the fur flew!

For Texas---I'd say any in that list will do!

If you’re not a long range guy, any of them would be fine (I would personally remove the .240 Wby option and insert the .257 Wby in its place).

If you’re a long ranger, the 6.5 would be the best choice.

Isnt there a saying something like variety is the spice of life or something like that?

What all is your purpose intent? If you even have the 240 wby on the list it shows you might be interested in something more than just the cheapest one that will kill a deer. I bought a 300 wby over a 300 win mag just because I like how the casings look. If I was buying a 240 wby i'd be having one made not buying a factory rifle and you could have the barrel twisted however you want.

Unless you reload, get a standard cartridge..
I got rid of my 280 AI a few years ago because I just didn't always have the time to reload like I wanted and factory ammo was stupid expensive and hard to get.

I grew up shooting the 25-06 and for the average guy that doesn't want to use a range finder and just put the crosshairs on it and kill it, the 25-06 is a classic south Texas deer rifle.

Having said that, I don't currently own one and prefer short actions and shorter barrels as I always run a can on it. So, 6.5 Creedmoor, 308, 7mm08 are all rifles I mix up when out hunting.
