Hogs are starting to show up again, usually a sign the acorns are done.

Kill a deer or hog at the end of the year. Then open it up and see what it has been eating. You will probably find 75% or more of it's contents to be acorns.
On a good year at our place, they will still be eating acorns in Feb.
