So the area I have hunted in the past has had 1 or 2 turkey vultures flying around, and over the years I have seen their numbers increase. I went to underneath some power lines last week and there were 100+ of these things on this power line (whatever those big [censored] metal things are called). I'm starting to think the lack of ducks is their fault...thoughts?

We have around 35 of the things flying over one of our properties and typically see ducks everytime. But no big numbers

I don't think Turkey Vultures eat anything that isn't already dead and decaying,....................... Heard a first hand report of a bunch of turkey vultures that killed and ate a small dog in Granbury last week. Owner saw the whole thing.

To be determined

I watch several buzzards dragging live fish from puddles in the Medina River when it quit flowing. I had to get a net and go fight them off

Several years ago I was in a blind with a good friend and we had seen a pretty steady stream of ducks....pretty good hunt and we were getting close to our limits. We hunted not to far from a small regional airport so it was not uncommon to see or hear a small Cesna tooting around. We noticed and commented that all of a sudden the flow of ducks stopped and didn't even see anything hitting other water. They just stopped. Looked to the north and saw what appeared to be a small plane flying our way but something didn't seem quite right. As it got closer and topped the trees a few hundred yards to our north we both stood up and put our guns down. Neither of us said a word...just stood and watched in awe as a bald eagle swooped down to our decoy spread to get breakfast. Smart bird cause as it reached to grab a decoy it realized he had been fooled and with one flap of his wings he departed. We stood with our mouths opened and our hands over our hearts. Moral of the story is that I have no idea whether a turkey vulture will affect ducks....but a bald eagle will!

Good question. I would really like to know the answer to this. We've got a wetlands that historically produces some shoots by now and have had zero birds on it. Good water and good food. But this year due to some dead cattle the Turkey Vultures are always over the wetlands. I never thought of this until I saw this post.

All I known is, when I see the vultures out I rarely see ducks. I always thought it was a time of day or weather thing rather than an predator thing.

I would imagine that when the ducks sense a large bird overhead, they don't know its a harmless Turkey Vulture,..................
