Anyone running one and if so how do you like the performance? Also what length barrel are you running? I've been debating on making the switch from my 300 BO SBR.

I was going to do a 6.5G SBR but went with a 6.8 after looking at the loss of performance. 6.5G really benefits from the longer barrel.

The 6.5 shines with heavy-for-caliber bullets. Those need speed to run, which is already hampered by the small case. Depending on it's use, I wouldn't do it.

What's wrong with your 300 BO?

Thx, I have a 6.8 sbr as well. Curiosity has me wondering about the 6.5 Grendel and whether or not its worthwhile. But then again I recently found out about the 224 Valkyrie that I'm looking into, not as an SBR. I wish I had been informed of the Valkyrie before I built a 22 Nosler, oh well.

Nothing is wrong with it, I just rarely ever shoot it. I'm just bouncing ideas around. And I have an 18" 6.5 Grendel that's great so I was curious about a shorter barreled version.

What bullet weight are you using and velocity are you getting from the 6.8 and barrel length? curious mostly.

When I crunched numbers on 7 1/2" barreled AR-15, 6.5 Grendel delivered the most ft/lbs, and 6.8 SPC was a tight second. .223, .300 B.O. and 7.62 X 39 were included in the hypothetical testing. I seem to remember the 30's had the least energy.

I'll just leave this link here, click on it If you want to read a little of others experience with SBR Grendels.

Interesting Odin made some for black Friday and they sold out so fast it will be a standard offering.

12-12.5 must be a good barrel length for SBR grendels, I have had a bunch show up in last two weeks to cut and thread at that length.

That seems to be the sweet length for a SBR Grendel form those that have them. Still get 2300+ from that length barrel with 123gr bullets with a BC of .490-.510 making for effective range in the 300+ area and still expand reliably. 12.5 with a suppressor makes for a short quite hunting rig.

On another note Hornady for a while had ballistics for the Grendel from a 16 inch barrel that showed it a bit less than the 6.8 in velocity, they later said that data was from a 14.5 inch pinned barrel and the 6.8 was from a full 16 inch barrel.

Thats great info man.

Really considering getting one for myself.

Love my 6.8 sbr, but grendel gives me cheaper plinking ammo.

yes if you don't mind Wolf steel cased ammo, it is often online for less than $6 for a box of 20. Bulk can get it before shipping for lea than a quarter a round.

It's great that we have such a wide variety of calibers, loads and rifles to "play" around with. I've gone through a bunch of ARs in .223, 6.8, .260, .308, and, for what I like to do (kill pigs) have settled on an Alex Arms 24" 6.5 Gren. For over five years now it's been fed nothing but 120 grain Nosler BTs over Xterminator and, with the N750, does really well night hunting everything from varmints to boars. I'm now working with a "backup" rig, a Ruger American in 300 BLK topped with a Photon. The fun part will be sorting load performance (on paper and on-pig) with slugs from 110 to 150 grains to see what it really likes.

I'm curious what I'm getting with my 8.5" barrel (1:7 twist)

Apples to apples a 6.5 Grendel doesn’t really give up anything to a 6.8, contrary to what some of the uneducated comments have already claimed here on this thread. The higher BC’s actually give you a little more steam than a 6.8 at further distances. Plentiful cheap ammo if that’s your thing, and if you already have a Long rifle in Grendel it starts to make a whole lot more sense. Don’t have to worry about picking up a mag full of 6.5’s and sending them down a .30 hole in the dark.

That’s a nice cull buck! I’m liking the idea more and more of a 12.5” Grendel.
