Our yearly trip to Arkansas is finally cancelled this year due to the water situation. we were praying for rain, but just didn't happen. There is a couple places that have water, but not worth fighting the 500 boats that will be going there for limited holes in the timber...
So we have decided for everyone to come up to my house and hunt from the 16th-23rd.... If anyone is wanting to trade some hunts PM me and maybe we can work something out. This guys hunt the flooded marsh all year so they are wanting a change of scenery.
Bummer our yearly trip to the flooded timber is cancelled, but a solid two and half weeks of hunting is ahead of us banana cheers

Try Kansas. Field hunting is a blast.

A guy we know who lives just north of Wichita Kansas says hes never seen as many ducks as there are now. Ditches through towns are even full of them.

Yeah, we were actually looking into Kansas. We have a couple of friends up there right now and said the numbers are outrageous and only going to get better in the next two weeks.... We thought about it, but haven't really done enough research to make that trip in such short notice. None of us have any full boody deeks...

I was kind of hoping Kansas would be frozen by the middle of December... eek
I've looked at it and if I had the extra days to scout I would head that way in a heartbeat. I think a trip up during next August/September just to look around may be in order.
Sorry to hear about Arkansas. That is a trip I want to make at least once in my life.

No matter how high a duck flies a hammer still breaks a window.

Birds should have pouring into south central this last few days. There is a spot I keep an eyeball on, I just checked it and they are stacking up.

Man you definitely need too... I went 5 years ago and go back every year since and will continue to go every year.. hoping one day to hit the lottery and buy some land up there cry But even if you don't have the chance to spend a week up there to find birds and find blow downs to hunt, book a guided trip to the timber for a 3 day weekend.. I love watching birds come in from hundreds of yards away, but there is nothing like watching them flutter down through the tree tops 15 yards from you and sometimes they land within arms reach...

on a side note, yeah Kansas was looking like a great idea, but I would rather spent my time hunting than spending 2-3 days out of the trip searching for birds or should I say a good area to hunt.

Sounds like you like shooting not hunting. To each his own but finding them is the “hunting” part.

Kinda what I was thinking... confused2 I'm not to the point in my life yet where I could take off a week of work to go drive around exploring new areas and not fire a shot...

Exactly, especially driving 9 hours and 12 for the other guys in my group....
I just don't want to spend 3 days of my 5 days of hunting scouting or searching. It is not just about the kill for me, but driving that far I want to at least have somewhat of a game plan and 8 days is not enough for a complete new area...

Our first year in Arkansas we didn't fire a shot. Last year, we went when the artic blast rolled through and everything froze over... We shot 1 mallard and 1 spec, but yet it was the funnest 3 days of hunting I ever had. We were laughing and cutting up the whole time. The years that we did get into them, it was bitter sweet... Soooo please explain to me preferring shooting over hunting in those two scenarios.

I went to Kansas for a pheasant hunt last year in late January. Every puddle, pond, lake, ditch with water in it, etc, was covered with ducks. It was amazing.
