Most in Young county are saying the deer are heavy on acorns now and feeders and accumulating corn are proving that. My oak tree in Flower Mound has started dropping burr rosewood color acorns. Will deer eat these without the hulls? I opened a few and fresh moist yellowish insides. Hell, I was tempted to taste it. I nearly filled a grocery bag with unhulled, uncracked acorns. Will the deer eat them?

Are they the big burr oaks? I'm pretty sure as long as the acorns don't have pin holes and larvae growing in them. She loves them caps or no caps.

No, they are maybe 1/3 larger than green acorns but not the massive Burr ones. The hull is whiteish burr like.

Yes the deer will eat them. Dump them in your feeder pen and they'll disappear before the corn.

Yep, makes for a tough bow season if you can't find the tree they like.

Hunting neighbor tells me they are Red Oak acorns. Two neighbors over I loaded on Burr Oak acorns too. Bag full and ready to see if they eat them.

I got five buckets of these off my one oak (had almost none last year). I've pitched a bunch in several feeder pens and yep, nothing but hulls left. Wish I had a barrel/spreader to ration them out--

I sat and watched 3 bucks go from acorn tree to acorn tree on Friday afternoon. They are eating acorns and not at feeders at all right now. It was so slow we went fishing in the 75-80 degrees Saturday afternoon on our place. Caught a 5 lb bass and multiple catfish!

My corn feeder hangs from a Bur Oak tree. The deer prefer the Red Oak and Chinkapin acorns down the way from it and the vetch and clover in the field. But yes, they will munch on the Bur Oak acorns as well.

DQ Kid, they also eat the live oak acorns too. If the opportunity is there for easy pickins they will eat it, especially if its cold out. They are scavengers. Feed em and they will come...lol
