I got a used 3 point levee plow a few weeks ago. I was wanting to build up levees on some flat land and flood it for duck habitat. My question is would it be worthwhile now, or is it too late? I mainly want to just provide more water for them at this point and possibly hunt in January. The land is flat and runs along side a creek/bottom area of our place. This is an older photo but I would flood areas to the left and right of this creek Here's an aerial view. The blue portions show where I would pump water and flood. Red dot is where I am standing in taking the above photo. I would pump 8-12 inches of water into those areas once enclosed via levees The area naturally has some wood ducks among other species. With good winter rains the bottom gets pretty wet and can hold ducks in pockets. I am just thinking of more water = more ducks, and a wider area for them compared to the narrow creek. Is this a dumb idea or worth a shot? I was planning on starting Thursday. Water supply shouldn't be an issue. I have the creek and several stock tanks in the area I can run hose from Here's a final pic showing the length of the bottom. It runs another 500 yards behind this photo as well until hitting woods

No, its not to late. You’ve got the land and water, get it done. I’d be planning it and designing it more for following years (water control, planting food sources, etc), though. Just my

Do it! Depending on where you’re at, I could help if you need a hand. More water usually equals more birds. Either way, sounds like a fun project.

Go for it! Not going to hurt a thing and even if its not real productive this year it could be in the future. Id have some deeper areas as well, 18-24". Plant millet and some barnyard grass in the shallows and shoreline. If not to far from Houston area id come lend a hand.

It's not too early for next year, but I suspect it might work for this season, too. Plus, a trial run might help you iron out some details for next year.
Let us know how it goes.
I just turned it on . I was looking bird dogs in the butt this morning.

You might be surprised by how fast puddlers can find newly flooded wetlands, especially in a decent flyway.

Do it. Put some winter wheat in there and put 6" of water on it and hang on. Plant more food this spring.
This country is stuck on stupid!
