I have a Ruger compact 7-08 and I’d like to run it suppressed. Would I be able to thread the 16.5” standard contour barrel?

If it's a standard contour, like a sporter size barrel contour, the largest threading you can do is 9/16" on the barrel. You would have to plan out your suppressor attachment to the barrel based on the 9/16" threading. But yes, it's certainly possible.

Yes. If there's not enough barrel diameter to thread 5/8 x 24 you can thread 1/2 x 28 and run an adapter.

I did this with a Savage 11 and it worked perfectly.

Yes! Morgan is great. He did all my rifles. He threaded my Sakos 1/2 and just screw on a 5/8 adapter ($15 Ebay).

Tony threaded my chopped Tikka sporter barrel 5/8" X 24 @ 17" from the bolt face.

If there's enough meat on the barrel, then yes, it will work.

I have a Ruger American Standard 7mm-08 22", and that sucker is pretty thin. I don't think you could do anything above 1/2x28, but add an adapter and it should get you to 5/8x24.

measure the barrel diam at the point you want to chop it if its over .725 I believe you can go 5/8 if below then go 9/16 or 1/2"

Can easily be done, what thread will depend on thickness.

Needs to be .700ish for 5/8
.620ish for 9/16 etc

Let me know if you need me to do it.

Still 50 for THF

Thanks for the help guys. Measured the barrel and OD is .52. It’s already a short barrel at 16.5”, so I couldn’t cut it down much.

My 6.5 Kimber came with a 0.59" barrel at the muzzle and it was threaded 7/16x28 from the factory. They sell adapters but I don't like stacking things. SAS was able to one off a 7/16x28 muzzle brake to attach their suppressor on for me.

Your barrel is slimmer and the bore is bigger so less meat then mine. Can always ask a suppressor manufacturer if they would recommend it.
