3rd year hunting this property. Last spring while out on the land I stumbled across turkey just before the spring season opened. I had no idea they were there, and I had never hunted turkey before.

I was super excited, waited for season to open, camo'd up, and went out. Took me 3 weekends (but I heard the gobbles every time I was out), but I finally landed by first Gobbler! It was an awesome experience. Sneaking through the woods, getting closer and closer to those loud morning gobbles. Finally laying under a cedar tree they came out, watching them strut and gobble was awesome, and after I landed that first gobbler, I am hooked.

But now we are in the middle of the fall season, I have not seen or heard one.

Where did they go? They were here 6 months or so ago. I only shot one bird. I don't know anything about turkey patterns. Thoughts?

Im not positive, but I think they have different ranges for different times of year.

All of them were at my feeder Sunday morning. Ate all the corn in 5 minutes.

That is how it is at our place. Lots of turkey in the spring but none to be seen now.

If there are river or creek bottoms with lots of oak trees in the area, they usually relocate to those areas in the fall to feed on acorns and travel the bottoms. In the spring they're focusing on breeding and nesting which generally takes place in more upland and open settings..

Turkeys flock up in winter. Once the days start getting longer, they will form breeding groups and spread out. They may spread out over several miles or more, locating good nesting habitat.

This^. Our turkeys disappear in the fall for the most part. Spring you see 30+ groups. They are nomadic for some reason.

Like TJack said they are where the food sources are and often in the Fall and Winter that is in the creek bottoms. My lease has them year round as it has both upland and creek. Previous leases had them in the Spring and Summer only except for the first 2 places that had both creek and upland areas.

In the spring they are much more distributed spreading out for breeding/nesting areas where the food sources are also good.

Of course they can travel miles a day and sometimes do.

When I hunted in Runnels Co., we would lose most of ours in late fall or early winter when the pecans started falling down river from us. Never bothered me because most of us had killed one or two by then, and they were always back for spring season.

Just weeks ago we had turkeys daily here in the creek bottoms but they have since disappeared completely. Not a peep.

I have a boat load of the corn thieves on me. I have had to resort to getting out of the blind several times and walking to within 40 yds of them and throw rocks to chase them off the corn. That lasted about 5 minutes.

Bingo. In our area they group up in massive flocks in the Fall, Winter down in the bottoms. Then, when Spring rolls around the hens spread way out and the Gobblers eventually follow. We have parts of the ranch where you never see or hear a Turkey during deer season, yet they range over there in Spring.
