I have an opportunity to get an Addax. I understand the meat is excellent...true?

Also, from what I have been able to find, they run maybe 250-300lbs. So maybe similar to a large mulie? So pretty much any good deer cartridge would work well?

Are shoulder shots preferred, or behind the shoulder, lung shots?

Thanks for the help.

They are no where close to muley sized. However, they taste a LOT better than deer. Light rounds are fine for addax.

Enjoy!

The two we shot weren't that big, or at least they didn't seem to be. Tastes better than most deer, axis/elk/stag being the exception. Very similar to scimitar oryx meat. My uncle shot his with a .30-06, don't know which exact round but if I were to guess, 150gr TTSX-type bullet. I shot mine with a Rage 2-blade and broke my arrow on the far shoulder blade (quartering away). Not particularly hard to kill, through the shoulder with a rifle would be ideal I think--my uncle put his there and it anchored down right away.

Shot at 120 yards with a Weatherby 270 mag. Great tasting meat.

Yes Chital-Shikari you are right. I shot that Addax with 150gr. Hornady. It was a shoulder hit
and it dropped in its track.

rancher:

when you say they are no where close to muley sized. I assume you are saying they are much larger?

Reason I ask, Wikipedia (I know, not always a credible source) says male addax run from 220-276 lbs and mule deer go from 121-331lbs. Thanks
