Shot my wife’s deer rifle that my dad gave her the day before he passed. Yesterday was the first time I shot it past 30 yards when I checked for functionality. It’s a 6.5x55 Swedish built off a Mauser 96 action and original military barrel. Custom walnut stock, converted to cok-on-open, and installed a Dayton Traistor trigger.

I shot a target load I developed for my Ruger M77 Mk. II for the Jan. 2015 Hunting Rifle Challenge. I think the load is 47 grains H4350 and a Sierra 123 grain HPBT.

First 3 shots were in the same hole. I was shooting at a huge piece of cardboard but I was still skeptical until I walked down and saw the hole was wallered out slightly. That’s the best group I’ve shot! The next 2 shots were about 1/4” off the first 3. I think I was too excited and messed up the group on those 2 last shots. Lol

Don’t ya just love an accurate rifle.

I’m shooting 4 shot groups now. If I put 4into a wallered out hole, no way can I do it with the 5th. Range gremlins will push the 5th out of the group.

I’m going to try to develop a hunting load this week. I need to back down on the powder charge some. I saw signs of too much pressure. I’m going to try 125 grain Nosler Partitions, 130 grain Nosler AccuBonds, and 120 grain Barnes TTSX. My Ruger loves the Original Barnes X but I’ve only got one partial box so I’m saving those for that rifle.

This is why I shoot 3-shot groups. Considering making the move to 1 or 2-shot groups. grin

Great shooting!

Excellent! My 6.5 Swede loves 140g BTSP.

The sweede is my favorite of the 6.5's. One of those rounds that was before it's time. The sweede's case capacity combined with today's selection of 6.5 bullets breathed new life into my 6.5x55.....

Good shooting but sometimes I have wished I stopped shooting at 3 shots. bang

On the one shot groups, I haven't done this in years but had a stack of playing cards I would use one for each rifle and shoot the first cold bore shot at the range into the card. Over time and multiple range trips the would tell a story about the rifle and cold bore shooting with that rifle. That cold bore shot is the important one shooting at game.
