It is my understanding you are not allowed to shoot ducks while resting on the water.

Really Chad?! Hard to believe that someone who has posted over 11,000 times doesn't know there's nothing wrong with laying the smack down on ducks sitting on the water. I prefer to line em up 6 at a time on the water and shoot once myself. Way to go Brady! Those are great opportunities for your dog. Way to whack and stack!

You're allowed...we call it the Arkansas skillet shot There is also an art to it, I've hunted with guys that flat couldn't kill them on the water. I like to consider myself some what of a master of that shot

Some duck hunters frown upon it, but it is not illegal, as has been stated. It's not nearly as divisive as high fence/low fence, but there are some that think it is unsporting. Others disagree. A lot of times, they get up off the water as soon as the hunter moves to shoot, anyway.

If i have done everything right to get the duck to actually think the decoys are real ducks and land in the spread, it is a dead duck. I simply don't shoot till the ducks flare (if they are well within range) or till they are on the water. That way they are the closest to me and i won't wound as many or educate ducks by shooting long shots and miss.

Honestly I would rather shoot them out of the sky but I was holding my phone and that really would have been hard. I kind of thought it might jump up off the water when raised my gun but it didn't so there you have it.

Really pleased with Kimber overall except dropping the birds and not wanting to heel up in those broom weeds. I thought about hadleing her off that dead duck to the cripple but there wasn't anywhere for it to really go.

She was pretty much steady (didn't break but just moved around a little) and besides the heavy breathing from the first retrieve she was quiet.


She'll be two on the 21st

Guilty, I'm the guy that takes 2-3 to finish a cripple, but I can fold up a triple in the air.

I was at the slough was bright hot sunny day, and not a bird in the sky, I spotted a nice pintail all by himself out like a million yards, I lobbed in #2s holding quite high over his head, yep,....I got him.

And no, I didn't feel guilty,.................................
