My ranch is 1045 acres and about 1/3 is high fenced (no plans to high fence the rest) I'm thinking about applying for an MLD permit next year. Any downfalls to MLD? I'm sure some of you fellers hunt a low fence MLD place. Do I have to hire a biologist, if so what do they run. Any info would be helpful...do's and don'ts and any cost related info please.

Already read that. Looking for folks that have implemented it for a while.
Thanks though.

No you don't have to hire a biologist. TPWD biologist will come out and go over your property and help you plan a survey route. I've hunted low fence MLD for the past nine years and I feel it's a pretty good program as long as you set a plan and make sure everyone hunting that property follows the plan.

I've managed two ranches low fence and two hf under Type III MLD over the past 18 years. We've always employed a biologist to handle all paperwork, permitting, aerial census, TPWD approved management plan and any other headaches. $2,500/year for him and $1,400 for the helicopter survey.

Couldn't agree more with Cattleman on everyone following the plan. It's a great program, imo.

I'm on a level III MLD and I've seen our trophy bucks improve greatly. The program works as long as everyone follows the rules. Our food plot & protein programs are really paying off.
