Shamrock is a great hunting area. I have great memories taking my son's up there for youth hunts with Yancey.

If I'm not hunting something I must be dead.

Numbers should be rebounding pretty well a few years post-drought. I'll be out there for the first time this weekend. Glad I'll miss that warm weather though.

Last 2 years have been good for 150+ bucks, this year we have not one 4.5+ on any camera and a decline in doe numbers. I’m out in the wheat field now going to slowly make my way to one of my stands. Good luck guys..

It's interesting to be sure. But my experience does not mirror yours, sir, nor does anything I've read about deer populations in the Panhandle. What I and others have seen is an extreme lack of older age classes of deer (4.5+). In the last three years, I've have only seen one buck each year that remotely approached 150. Being the third year post-drought, I'm expecting some good bucks to hit the ground this year. This is proving true with the number of outstanding bucks that have already appeared in LDPs this year.

I'm just east of Wheeler and we have deer coming out our ears. Have had a few bucks in the 130-140 range on camera but nothing bigger. I have one stand with at least 5 younger deer in the 120" range coming in all the time. A lot of hunting pressure in the area and its very rare for us to see deer over the 140 range. I will be up there all next week! The rut is a blast up there.

Interesting, have you seen a decline in the doe population? I shot a 173 in 10 point here last year.

I'm in Hall and I've seen a decline in just about everything. It's been well documented that there was very little fawn recruitment the last couple of years during the drought. That's not to say there haven't been a few older deer around or that we haven't had successful hunts the last few years. But there are definite gaps in the age structure.

It seems to be greatly improving though, and I expect the next few years to be awesome assuming the moisture continues.

I have a pic from last Friday of an old 140 class buck who is swole up big time! I also have some pics of a young bachelor group the day after. I hunt just south of Memphis. Not seeing many big bucks this year but lots of doe. Rut should be in full swing by this weekend.

Just south of Lakeview. I'm planning to be out there for the Saturday evening hunt, and for the next two weeks after that.
