Came across one yesterday.....hadn't seen them before. I carry a 1911 so ammo would be interchangeable.....what are y'alls opinions of one for a truck gun. I currently keep an 870 with extended mag loaded slug-buck-slug-buck and have a pistol with me. It's a little more bulky than I would like but the balance was good and with a red dot it should be pretty handy for 100 yds or less. It's either this or a .17 HMR which is what I was shopping for.

Like to know what y'all think....Thanks!

I'm not a brand snob nor do I own any high end firearms but I stay away from any & all things High Point.. If there's a remote chance that I'd ever need to use in a life-saving situation it's just not worth it to me.. Had a friend in college that owned a HP pistol & it was the most unreliable semi-auto I've ever been around.

Everything I have ever read about High Point from actual High Point owners, has said that they are cheap, ugly, bulky, fun, and reliable. Especially when it comes to the carbines! With that said, there are drawbacks, mainly the low magazine capacity.

For a fun gun to plink with, I say go for it if you like them. For a "truck gun", I would go with a budget AR, like a S&W Sport... but those are probably twice the price of the High Point.

I have a pistol of theirs and can say that the above is dead on. As for the carbines, I can't/won't say anything as my experience is limited. Sounds like you want a 17 and got excited by the idea of a 45ACP carbine. Get your 17 HMR cause they are little stingers, then after time if your still hung up on the carbine, get one. They are cheap enough.

I have had a carbine in 40 and in 9, loved them both, very fun to shoot, never had any reliability issues with either one. They are great for the money, plus the warranty service is excellent, fix anything no questions asked

Based on what users say, they're probably okay even if they're homely. That said, I'd opt for an AR if I was buying today with prices as low as they are. I never thought I'd see the day, but it's here.

I do have a friend who loves his .45 Highpoint carbine. It seems to just run and run for him.

From my perspective, the .45 ACP doesn't benefit as dramatically from the longer barrel like .357/.44 mag do.

I just don't see it delivering a high energy level out where a good slug will. But then, I've been a 12ga guy for 45 years so I know what my drop looks like when needing to reach way out.

Some will disagree strongly, but I would prefer to have an 18" 12ga over a .45 ACP carbine if I felt that my handgun was inadequate.

A Democracy is when two wolves and a lamb vote on the dinner menu. That is why this country was specifically not designed as a Democracy. We are a Constitutional Republic.

You're correct about the ACP not gaining as much as a 357/44 from a longer barrel. However, the 45 ACP has plenty of power for close range critters, and ammo is much cheaper than 12ga slugs.

The secret to a long life is to try not to shorten it.

I've had HP carbines in all of their calibers. They are reliable, ugly and very fun to shoot. And yes, I too have ARs.
