My current hunting case broke, and I'm looking for a recommendation on a new one. I do have a big Pelican that is great when on long trips or flying, but its a bit big and heavy to throw in the back seat of the truck. I'm looking for something a bit thinner and lighter, but that still offers hard side protection. I had one of those cheap aluminum cases from Academy - it lasted me almost 10 years, but I wanted to see if anybody has a recommendation on something better. The longest gun I'll put in it will be my Winchester model 70, with 24" barrel, or a similar sized 12 ga. I'm looking for something I won't have to cut foam on, as it will see multiple guns. This is pretty much what I had that broke on me: https://www.amazon.com/Goplus-Aluminum-L...2149KB5FDEGF8H2Any ideas?

If I had only one or two rifles to tote around I might like a hard case, but I sometimes will carry six or eight with me. Six or eight hard cases would fill up my backseat and I'd have no room for a cooler full of beverages or other gear. I just use Allen soft cases (the nice thick ones they used to make...I think they're not made as nice now) and handle my rifles with a bit more care to avoid injuring them.

I had 2 pelican 2-gun cases and sold them a while back for $50 each, they were to big, to heavy, and just generally a pain in the a** to use and just wanted to be rid of them.
All I have now are soft cases, just find one with good padding and a side pocket for ammo/magazines/etc. if I’m going to the lease I usually take no fewer than 4 rifles, 2 handguns, and sometimes the 12 gauge. Hard cases would just take too much room...
I do plan on getting a single hard case and it will be either the pelican or Cabela’s copy for times where someone other than myself might be handling my firearm. But if it’s just me moving them around, I’ll stick to the soft cases.

0% chance I'll let a rifle ride in the bed of the truck in a soft case. But I never put a Pelican case inside the cab.

I can't seem to find a Pelican single gun - I have a 1720, but I haven't seen one narrower than that, even in the knock offs I've been looking at...

I have a double SKB case that has worked great. I want a pelican case though for my big rifle and the NV AR.

Cabela's has a couple of options that are right on point, and on sale right now. The Cabela's single gun (pelican look-alike) seems thinner, narrower, and lighter and is on sale for $84! I think I'm gonna try that. Thanks guys!

If you're looking for a regualar "get the job done case", Plano will work. I can fit a rifle length Ar in mine, extra upper, and magazines in mine.

I have a case similar to the GoPlus case you linked. Don't recall what brand it is. I used it until the handle broke. It went in the attic after that. Plano makes some pretty stout gun cases that aren't quite as heavy duty as a Pelican. Don't know if they offer it without the pluck foam. You might have to purchase that separate. https://www.amazon.com/Plano-Double-Scop...gun+case+handle
It is far more important to be able to hit the target than it is to haggle over who makes a weapon or who pulls a trigger.

I’ve been using Pelicans forever, and just got tired of lugging them around. I still have the Pelicans for long road trips locked in the bed of my truck, but the other 95% of the time I have been using soft cases from US Peacekeepers. They are pretty well made, nice features, and very affordable!

It also is roughly 2 inches of padding.

This is a really nice soft case that will handle a 24 inch scoped Suppressed rifle with bipod attached. http://www.cabelas.com/product/Cabelas-Xtreme-Long-Range-Rifle-Case/2338749.uts?slotId=2
