My dad, kids, and I had a great hunt Saturday morning. I didn't get to take a lot of photos, but had time to take a few.
We had 7 or 8 coveys pointed Saturday morning and we didn't start till nearly 10. We only had one dog down at a time and thought there were plenty of birds to hunt. Here is what I did notice the coveys were noticeably smaller, but they are usually always smaller at the first of the season and overall I think it will still be a good season. We hunted in Kent County.

Awesome pics. Makes me miss it worse. Can't walk long anymore so 10k for UTV, 5k for a lease if you can find one and about 3-4 honest dogs. I'll just see it in pictures! up

I was worried about the lower rainfall totals for this year vs. last year.

You need to change your signature picture. This would look great there.

The cactus will slow down a new dog that has never ran through it before, but mine seem to just go right through it and never look back. I have never booted my dogs and the place in kent County is our families place and unfortunately it is loaded with cactus. I have never been to another place as bad as it as far as cactus. The only thing that has ever slowed my dogs down was hunting some sandy land in Garza Co. And although I didn’t boot them I should have as the grass burrs sure slowed them down.

My dogs don’t mind cactus, but grass/sand burrs sure mess them up

Mine are the same way. I do carry a pair of small needle nose pliers to pull out any sand burrs or cactus if needed.

Chet,
The butt pic with the check cord is her and that is her first point on a covey. Found a covey and dropped her down sorry the picture was not better. She will work great and shouldn't take long. She will really range out, my only problem this weekend is my pup from last year holding the most beautiful points until you get about 75-50 yds from her and then she is busting them. Going to have to work her a lot more on Whoa, I did reset her up each time she busted a covey and held her there for a long time.

Those Chet dogs have that issue. They are so beautiful on point u sometimes cut them too much slack.

Lying is lying. Don't bitch about one doing it and condone another. That's called hypocrisy.

Well what I can see looks high and tight. Had her sister down once and bumped two coveys but wants to point. Your pup has Beau's head mine is a little bitchy but ok. Not unusual for a yearling to get all full of themselves. Didn't Annie get wild and wooly 1st time out last year? If Lucy gets to running to much you know where you can go with her grin

Annie did blow through quite a few at the first last year, but then settled down and did nicely. We need a freeze and that would help out I am betting.
