Reading some recent threads here it encouraged me to cut the 26" barrel back on my wife's 7mm-08.
Well I went and did it last night, decided on 18".I wound up having to remove the action to get it done so while it's apart I might just go and Cerakote the barrel/action. Should be able to assemble and get some rounds down range later today.

Around 40.0 gr H-Varget, 162 gr .005" off the lands.

Congrats, you'll love it! My 7mm-08 rental rifle has done a whole lot of killing. Hogs, coyotes, and whitetail. If flat out works! I've target shot with it to 1400 yards, as well.

I've shot/got 7-08's from 14"(XP-100) to 26" and would never go more than 22" on purpose, nor less than 20"(noise). The exception being a platform expressly geared towards running a can and then I'd go 18",to keep overall length handy-ish.

162 ELD's at 2700fps,leave an impression in all zipcodes and REALLY carries the Mail.

SAAMI throating will mandate binderless AICS mags,to reap a Smooch, but that is a nice way to do bidness and is a great leap over suffering Wyatt or similar.

Favorite Sleeper...for Lippy Dissenters. On the bottom.

With a 200yd zero,162 ELD's in the mag,20" spout and 2550fps low PSI Launch(due primary and secondary extraction penchants in the lever gun),the windshield alone will get it to the Ten Hundo yardline. Parcel retains 21 Mils on the erector which is the the 1475yd line in this morning's atmosphere(6x MQ) and all in,will punish the 1775yd line.

Dissenters HATE it...............(grin)

Probably never will load a 162 as it's the Mrs's deer rifle and only get's shot out to 400yds or so. Going to give up some speed but it's a whole lot handier now.

Check out the BC Hornady made with the 150 gr ELD-X. It is shocking.

And congrats on the modification.

Yeah, I might need to try handloading the 150 ELDX. The factory load didnt group that great in nine.

I have been shooting a 18.5 inch 7mm-08 since 1982. Hunting rifle that has around 2500 down the pipe now and still shoots very well. Busheler did point out the noise factor which is significant with it but when shooting suppressed not an issue.

Back in the days of hunting with dogs in Mississippi, I hunted around the house one morning and my Uncle called and said the dogs had the deer moving all around his house so drove there and stood on the edge of his hay field, sure enough a buck came running across the field so I shot him. A couple of my cousins were almost a mile away and knew I had arrived and loosed a couple rounds. Noise signature was different than any other rifle around there at the time.
