Hello! Lee here :3 I'm trying to do research and reference for the (hopefully near) future and have been looking this up everywhere, but just can't seem to find the answer . I'm wondering about laws and regulations specifically regarding hunting and trapping of any sort (including fishing) on your own land here in Texas. I know I'm only 21 and live in an apartment, but one day I plan on having hopefully 5-20 acres of land to use for some light self farming, on top of building myself a little workshop along with a home and all but I hope to have at least 3 to 18 usable acres of viable land for hunting, trapping, fishing, or hell, just camping and exploring, of course I don't mind if I need to get more land, the more the merrier haha... But yes! Is there any regulations on tags, guns, traps, and the like? I obviously won't be going after endangered species or killing just to kill and not making use of my meat (and well, the whole animal), but aside from the obvious I need answers and can't seem to get them anywhere(thus joining this amazing forum)
I like to socialize but get ornery when I have to do it myself, so ask me questions, strike up a convo, I'll be more than happy!

Ooh! This is one of the sites I saw in my search but I guess it's cause I'm not really tech-savvy, but I coudn't seem to navigate to anything specifying about doing this on your own land. Just on others lands and state land. Could you please help me sir?

So the hunting and trapping laws apply whether you buy or lease or are a guest on the land. Read the website to understand added regulations on federal land.

Find your county you want to buy in and there are the regs. It is not state wide, it is by county.

ahh. I see. Welp. I am still trying to learn about everything. Sorry yall for the inconvenience haha. Momma and Daddy never minded my interest but never helped me learn, and when I was in cps they shunned the idea, and so did my ex, so I have not much knowledge. Makes a little more sense now though. I see now that you don't do anything different on your own land than on anothers, and I already sorta knew it differs by county, but I guess the law is the law lol. It'll be a pain to have tagged stuff all over my property though x.x

Not entirely correct as it pertains to the OPs post - you do not need a fishing license and there are no bag limits/laws pertaining to what you do with fish in your own private waters on your private property.

You came to the correct place for getting started.
I suggest that you take a Hunter Ed class as soon as you can. I see you are 21 so you can do it totally on line, but in your situation I would recommend you to take the full classroom course so that you can ask questions and have interaction. You will have to have this course to legally hunt any way.
Follow this link and put your zip code in and it will tell you if you have any classes scheduled in your area.
Thank You Robert

Not really. Sounds like a young person at 21 without much experience outdoors wanting to follow a dream. Welcome!

The laws are favorable to 10+ rural acres, subdivisions excluded. They can have restrictions against any shooting in the subdivision. The more acres the better of course. Especially if you want a range out past 100 yards. You don't need a license for predation control. Hogs and coyotes and raccoons rats and such. I always buy a general resident hunting in case I decide to take a deer or escaped exotic. The main thing is read any and all restrictions to the property before signing anything. The present owner might not not even be aware or fully disclose that. Title search will find anything against it, hopefully.
Buy all you can. They ain't making any more of it.
One shot is all it should take.

You don't need a license for predation control. Yes you do. The only exception to that is depredating hogs and coyotes, or furbearers if the hunter possesses a trapper’s license.

Sneaky if predation is happening to your livestock no you don't. If you are fur hunting, yes.
One shot is all it should take.

In Category B are those animals listed in the Parks and Wildlife regulations as fur-bearing animals. Included are wild fox, skunk, civet cat, raccoon, opossum, badger, ring-tailed cat, beaver, otter, mink, nutria, and muskrat. While a recreational and commercial harvest season and bag limit is prescribed in that regulation, there also exists a clause stating that nuisance furbearing animals may be taken in any number by any means at any time. A nuisance fur-bearing animal is defined as one that is depredating or is a threat to human health or safety. A Texas hunting license is again required, except by the landowner or his agent for the property where the nuisance furbearer is located.
One shot is all it should take.

If you own the property you can hunt and fish all you want -------- the rules/laws are for people that are leasing property.

Anybody can kill hogs if they are tearing your place up without a license. Anybody can kill coyotes if they are attacking/killing livestock or fowl without a license. Anybody can kill beavers that are daming up a creekbed or such without a license. You only need a trapper license if you intend selling the hide.

I thought landowners still had to have a hunting license and also follow the laws for game animals. Not referring to stuff like coyotes or feral pigs etc.
