I used to be a stickler for chronographing during load development, and used an optical. Then realized, when I gwt one shooting tight, it tended to also have a low ES. I never cared how fast it went, as long as it was consistent.
As far as the Magnetospeed, they give dang accurate numbers, but I don't want anything touching my barrel, especially during load development. "They" say all it does is shift POI, but I don't buy it. Its got to change harmonics. If that was the chronograph I had, I would develop a load without it, find the winner, and chrono after the fact.

^^+1. Would love to have a good chrono but consistent velocity is much more important. Once you have a load you like you can use ballistic app(s) to calculate your velocity. P_102

I moved to a Magnetospeed from optical this year. I only use at the end of load development to gather data of final product not during for all the reasons stated above.

Pretty dang nice to have a Magnetospeed to assess which factory ammo is the most consistent, and have a solid MV to plug in a ballistics calculator. Saves a lot of time and money coming up with a dope chart the ole fashioned way. Once all that is accomplished, it gets put away until there’s a new situation to assess.

I love mine. Like others, I use it after I find a good load to know the velocity.

I would be blind without a chronograph. I chrono almost every shot I shoot on the range. I use a Lab Radar. Used it again today.
The main thing I need to know is where my velocities are in relation to the powder and powder charge I am running. And where my accuracy node should be with the speeds. I seriously would be loading ammo blind without it. It's a necessary tool for me.

I'm a control system / instrumentation specialist and can't see how something like that so close to the barrel can take that kind of repetitive abuse and be consistent. One way to get around it touching your barrel

Hint.............. I didn't say they couldn't just amazed how they can keep measuring with enough accuracy to get you in the ballpark to build a range chart to get you on paper down range.
