I saw that, and have never heard of it otherwise. Alton Brown can come up with some crazy stuff.

I saw a guy smoke sausage in a smoker made from a dishwasher box.

They also had some dried tarantulas.

I was sick on the couch all day and there wasn't much on. Used to enjoy chopped but there is some pretty ridiculous stuff on there and the severe over representation of lgbtxqzy people is a pretty good turn off.

I have used washer and dryer boxes for smoking and making jerky. An electric hot plate with mesquite chips furnished the smoke and heat.
